I like the sense of spaciousness you've achieved.

James,

Much appreciated, thank you. I wanted the viewer to feel like each scene was separate from the others and that the train was traveling further than the confines of the layout.

The area between the layout edge and the track, across from the farm, is going to be a cow pasture.

Cows need a watering hole so I had to dig one out of the blue earth.

I used rough sandpaper to round off the edges and then used spackle to grade the pond.

Installing a fence was next. I used the Central Valley plastic (wood fence) pieces.

I pushed the fence posts into the foam and leveled the fence using my small bubble level. When satisfied with the fence, I used a toothpick and applied a little white glue to bottom of the posts to hold them in place.

I decided it would be easier to install the fence prior to adding scenery.

I let the glue dry over night. The fence was firmly in place at this point.

I used Tamiya Flat White to paint the fence posts and rails.

I also added the road to the pasture.

I then moved back to the Suwannee River Basin area to finish the area between the lagoon and the layout edge.

After the first layer of sand was dry, I added a thin layer of Fine Dirt from Scenic Express. The dirt matches the road leading up to the wooden bridge over pass.

I applied white glue to the area beside the road for the first layer of ground/scenery material.

When this dries, I'll add more layers of scenery.

I painted the cow pond and noticed I need to add a little more spackle to smooth out the bottom and edges.

Here is a view of my 38 foot work bench. The work bench will eventually become the town of Tahope with track and a reverse loop. 8)

I'll have more to add tomorrow afternoon.

Jeff,

You are funny Doc! No, is the answer to that. I won't even start it until I get the third level bench work up.

I need the space for making the third level decking.

Y'all ought to see it in person.....photos don't do it justice.  8)

Just to get back in character.....if you hadn't been slacking so much since the holidays, you would have been able to get Tahope done in time for the convention.  ;)

Most modelers have a workbench with about one square foot of open area, but you've achieved that in about 100 sq. ft.!
