I wanted to add a little more detail to the piping on the end of the platform. I trimmed the end pipes for this reason.

I then painted the pipe connectors.

The kit comes with the pipes to connect them to Walthers Piping kit.

When using the piping kit, the pipes all are located above ground level and take up a lot of space/real estate.

I decided to use the pipes in the fuel kit in a different way. I trimmed the end off the pipe and glued it in place as shown.

I cut three pipes for the lower platform pipes and glued them in place as shown.

I repeated the process for the upper pipes.

The pipes from the main supply tank to the platform pipes are now below the ground.

This frees up a good amount of real estate for more tanks and structures in the fuel facility yard.

Tom,
Funny to me, every time I see someone modeling a little refinery or oil n gas with lots of pipes.  I hanker back to my third job working a summer at a little chemical refinery for Exxon in Chumuckla, Fla. (yes I did piping and wire running)  I've always wanted to model a big refinery with lots of pipes etc.

Perhaps one day I might stop thinking about it and move my arse and do it...  Nawh, right now I've built a perfect one in my mind. (but that's another story) ;D  Thanx Thom...

Looking good Tom.  I like the idea of burying the pipes underground.  Save space, and allows for vehicles to drive "over" them.

Greg,

Thanks and I had fun yesterday talking about all our youthful misdeeds.

Thom,

Well, you piped up and had to say something gassy. I really bet it is scary to know what is in your mind! ;D ;D ;D

Not that mine is any different.

Mark,

Thank you sir. The pipes running underground did free up some space for me. I'll be sharing that later in the build thread.

Today I've been working on adding the end extension and stairs to the south end of the fuel platform.

I'll have more to show later this afternoon.

I used a piece of .030 styrene to make the small additional platform deck.

I measured the width and cut it to fit.

The small guard rail section in the bottom of the photo is one of the original kit end pieces. I'm using two of these to make the side rails for the additional section.

I only need the additional piece to be as long as the side and end piece.

I cut the styrene to fit and glued the three rail sections flush to the white base.

After gluing these pieces together, I realized I incorrectly measured the width of the white base piece. These side rail sections are the original end pieces and not as wide (including the guard rail base) as the long side guard rail sections. I'll show the difference later in the build. Anyway, at this point, I decided to not redo the small addition to the correct width.
