Downsizing?  Eeeek!  Guess I better bump getting back to Phoenix up the priority list...

James,

Getting out to see Frank's wonderful Morristown & Erie Railroad is on my  bucket list as well.

I hope to post an update or two this afternoon. The flu had me down for the better part of two weeks. :'( :'(

Time to bury the two vertical tanks located behind the quonset hut.

I marked the location of the tanks with a #2 pencil.

I wet the area inside the pencil marks with water and let is soak for about 30 minutes. I then used a putty knife to remove the loose gravel.

I then replaced the tanks to make sure I got all the gravel out from under and around the tank bases.

I removed the tanks and weathered them using Hunterline A&I stains and when dry I used some Pan Pastels. I set them aside to dry overnight.

I then glued the tanks to the plywood and added the gravel around the tanks. The gravel appears light prior to adding the wet water and matte medium. When the matte medium is dry all the gravel will be the same color.

I finished gluing the loading rack supports, nozzle pipes and other piping details together.

The nozzles and the deck under the nozzles were painted with Model Masters Jet Exhaust. The red on the rear cross bar is the result of an errant brush as the fauset handles were being painted. This has since been corrected. 8) 8)

Tomorrow I'll show the weathered fuel tanks, loading racks and all the piping. I'm finally getting close to the finish line or this fuel depot.

Thanks to all following along on this adventure.

Thom,

I love that song! The lyrics are catchy and you can smell the tar of the Georgia pines. Thanks for the lift in my day.

I weathered the tanks and piping using Hunterline A&I Light Gray and Medium Brown.  The medium brown appears like dried gasoline/oil and gunk on the piping after the first light gray application.

The weathering doesn't show all that much in the photos but it is medium to heavily weathering.

I then added the gravel around the tanks. I painted on white glue, added some gravel and then the tank sub structure.
