I bet you invented a few new cuss words while you were making that repair.   :D  It had to hit a turnout didn't?  Glad to hear you were able to make repairs.  A minor setback in the grand scheme of things.  The roundhouse looks terrific!   ;D

"Cuss sessions" is how I measure the frustration level of a given project.  When it gets over 3 Cuss Sessions, it's time to set it aside and try something else for a while.

Come to think of it, he is posting speed restrictions all over the place.....Tahope downtown, turntable, yards, past farmer whats-his-names pasture, passenger stations, freight yards, ovalix.....will this ever end or will the cop in him keep adding limits till there is nowhere to let out that throttle?.....oh the humanity!  :(

For the repair, was it a replacement of the switch or were you able to remove the "offending material?"

Bob,

Yes, I did come up with a few new cuss words. It definitely tested my Christianity.

Thanks for the compliment on the roundhouse, it turned out better than expected.

Dave,

I wanted to set this project off to the side a few times but also wanted to get it finished. I didn't want to have it on my mind when trying sleep.

Chip,

Yes, it seems like he has followed me all my life. If I ever find out where he lives I may loose my Christianity all over again.

Greg,

I would have preferred to have it drip on the brass. That would be much easier to fix/repair.

Jim,

I can set Greg's "Greg Speed" any time, any where.

Larry,

At first I thought it would be a switch replacement. When I actually got the switch "unstuck", I decided to try and save it. Once the turnout was pulled up, I worked on getting the dried resin off the plywood where the turnout was stuck.

When that failed, I then decided to work on getting the points unstuck. This turned out to be much easier than expected. I simply used the putty knife and ran it down between the stock rail and point rail. It popped loose and I then used a small needle file to remove the resin from the rail.

It took longer to get it back in place with the Tortoise linkage up through the throw bar than actually making the repairs. The turnout was soldered to the yard tracks so all the work was completed between the two levels.

It was a long three hours either way.

I got all the roundhouse tracks in place and wires soldered.

I cut a small square from some Masonite and installed the control panel just under the fascia.

More in a few.

I dedicated a 12 volt power supply to the turntable.

Birds eye view of the area.
