Glad that the A&S is back in operation.

Does anyone have experience with whole-house surge suppressors?

HI Dave,

I was talking with Tom last week about this problem and did some follow up research.

I talked with the guys at APC, whose uninterrupted power source and surge protection I have on all of our computers and electronic stuff.

Their products work great cleaning up the electrical supply, protecting against normal surges and providing back-up power for short outages.

They said that, to their knowledge, there are no systems that protect 100% against a close or direct lightning strike. The only solution he said, was to unplug all devices during a lightning storm.

The surge is so fast and powerful in a strike, that it just jumps across the little protection thingy (my non-technical word) and fail every time.

If anyone knows of a fail safe system that requires no unplugging, it would be greatly appreciated.

I had no success finding an address for B. Franklin in the Philadelphia phone book or on Google. However, since I know the church yard from which he flew his kite, I'll drop down there next week and see if anyone knows where he hangs out now. See if he has any suggestions. :))
Working on my second million. I gave up on the first.

Dave,

Sorry, I didn't get on your post sooner. I've been building kits and such. Yes, I got a new Digitrax PS2012 and everything is now running smoothly once again.

Chip,

If B. Franklin answers, please let me know. I have lots of questions about French women. 8)

I've been working on the layout the past few days.

I'll have some photos to share tomorrow evening.

I'm back working on the layout and scenery for the next several months. I decided to start with the extension of the Tahope Hwy. The highway crosses the spur track leading to Tahope, crosses the Big Tahope River and then fades just past the two citrus processing plants.

The highway has been marked on the foam.

I wanted to use the cardboard for the road and some concrete around the three structures. This way I can mark the road and structures locations directly on the cardboard.

Drawing in the road edges.

Out side curve cut and test fit to make sure it lines up where it should. So far so good.

I started with Sokols but had to move it back a few inches. It looks better back from the road anyway. I used a pencil to outline the building and then cut out the center section.

I think ya'll can see where I'm going here. The other two buildings were located on the cardboard and traced.

Here is how it will look. The areas you see in pink will be ground scenery and the areas around the buildings will be concrete.

I then cut a section for the road and between the track.

The building were replaced for a final test fit and then removed. The cardboard was then glued in place.
