Yep, I have this one in my stash as well.  When I first saw it the structure just screamed out hometown to me.  It looked like it belonged in any one of the small towns around the area I grew up in.

When I purchased it I showed it to Tom and he wanted one as well.  As chance would have it I had a balance in my PayPal account so we made some sort of deal, the details of which escape me, and I ordered one for him as well.  When I ordered the second one it alarmed Jim Harr who sent me an e-mail asking if everything was alright with the first kit he had sent me.  He was concerned that something was wrong with it and that's why I had ordered a second one.  I assured him the first kit was fine and the second kit was for someone else.  Now that's customer service.  Too bad Jim opted to focus on custom model building and got out of the kit manufacturing business.  I loved the designs he came up with.   :D

Bob,

Appreciate the input and story. We have talked about building this for years.

Neat building and terrific interior details.....this one will be great for lighting up.....I'll be watching Tom.  :)

Yep, any building with big windows and an interior cries out to be lit up. However, for some odd reason I'm a little reluctant to suggest that Tom light anything up.  ::)

Slim,

Oh yea, go ahead and continue to blame me for your faulty LEDs. I'm a big guy and can take the heat. No pun intended. ;D ;D

I've been listening to you two play the blame game for years.....I've about decided that both y'all are miscreants and part pyromaniacs.  ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

Tom,

Will be following along - I have this kit in my to build pile, as well as the Snyder Milling.
Jim was kind enough to do "Ethan Allen" Cafe signs for my New England setting for the diner.

Greg,

Speaking only for moi, I definitely am what you said.  Wonder why I didn't join the fire department instead of the Po-Po. Oh, yea, they put out fires! Just saying.

Marty

Marty,

Thanks for following along. I've had this one for the last 9 years and finally it is getting built.

I'll need to change my sign as well. Nine years ago I had no idea what I wanted on the sign.

Oh come on, give me a little credit for burning down JD's station with defective LEDs. :-[  Not everybody can do that little trick.

Okay, we had some fun. Now its time to get on with the build. More to follow in a few minutes after loading the pictures.

I started by laying out the foundation pieces.

The instruction sheet states the Foudation Assembly template is to 1:1 scale, meaning it's HO scale to the template sheet.

However, in the middle of the page is a (not to scale) notation. I figured this to refer to #F6 as not to scale. I've marked this in red.

Matching these to the Foundation Assembly template, I noted they don't fit. See photo below.

I decided here, I would make the Foundation Assembly fit the floor and not the template.

I needed to shave a little off #F4, shown in blue, to get the foundation to fit the floor pattern.

Nor sure how this slight change will affect the walls. I know that if the walls, once together, are slightly wider I'll be able to make the adjustment of the building on the foundation.

We'll need to wait and see how this works outs.
