Howdy folks,

It was a long day at the bench because of the battens on the post office.  Whew, I had forgotten how tedious they can be.

Here's a photo of the battens applied and ready for assembly.

Have fun,

Mike, nice job of finishing the battens.
Thanks for the SBS on the vines.
They look realistic.

Very nice, Mike.  You do very precise work.

Mike I ordered brown india ink to give your vines a try. I was surprised by all the colors available. I thought it only came in black! :o

Howdy folks,

Dave, thanks for your comment.

Curt, your comments are always appreciated.  India ink is strong, so try diluting it a lot to begin with.  I mix it with black and alcohol for my wood coloring.

Jerry, thanks for the comment.  You are most welcome to the SBS.

Larry, thank you for the comment.  Good luck with the vines.

Rick, thank you for the comment about realism.  That is always my objective.

Mike, thank you.  It's good to see you back online.

===============================

Here are a couple of photos of progress on the post office.

Assembled structure ready for the roof trusses.

I made a mistake in my design and forgot to add slots for a truss ridge beam. Oh well, I'll remember next time.

The structure is in the paint booth, drying. Next, I'll add the corner trim boards and work on the porch. As of this morning, I have decided on either green or red fish-scale shingles.

Have fun,
mike

Mike,

Like others, I might just have borrow the vine technique. The sheriff building looks great as does the napping sheriff.

The post office is also looking great.  While adding the battens is a time consuming progress, the final result is well worth the effort.

Mike, Howdy,

The vines are very realistic and the battens are well done.

Great thread.

Howdy folks,

Curt, thank you for your comment.

Ron, thanks for your comments.  I think NBWs are more tedious than B&B, but not much.

Jerry, thank you for your kind words.

Tom, Thanks for your support and comments.

Lately, those darned ole 1:1 things have gotten in the way of having much fun, but I did manage an hour or two to add sawtooth singles to the Post Office roof.  It's my first time using sawtooth shingles, but they are surprisingly easy to apply.  I still have weathering and a ridge cap to add, but here's a proof-of-work photo.

Have fun,

Great job on the shingles I found with this style shingle you have to align them in two directions.
