I glued all the walls together and reinforced the corner joins inside with 5mm sq balsa rod.
Then I made a sub-roof from 5mm thick balsa, with stir sticks for the gable end boards.

Then attached it and painted the boards.
Here you can also see the back wall. As this was originally part of the 2nd story, I added skirting along the bottom of it, using thin card.

So I decided to do a tarpaper roof on this one. Just used card strips, suitably roughed up and weathered.

Then added a small landing on the right side, made from balsa.
And finished up with pigeons on the roof, a barrel and then just made up a temporary base with some figures.

The front steps are made from balsa. The sombreros are scratchbuilt

Rob,

Excellent job on the kit and all the details. The scene brings it to life.

Howdy Rob,

The build turned out fantastic.  You captured the look and feel of the southern climes.

Have fun,

Thanks Tom, Rick, Karl, Greg, Philip, & Mike.
Originally as it was a two story structure, I had considered  keeping it that way, but it was just way too large for the layout.
I enjoyed modifying the walls to a single story. With the slicing & dicing, I think it looks like it was meant to be that way.
Now to get it on the diorama extension for the layout.

Wonderful color scheme.   That carving over the door is awesome as well.

Thanks Jeff.  Colourful without looking too garish.

The carving over the door was already on the casting when I got it.  Pretty sure Grant would have got some sort of piece from the craft store that would be used for jewellry or similar.  Then adding that to the master mould, before pouring the plaster.
I've seen him also use embossed buttons, etc for other fancy relief details on his castings.
