Good evening 11:15 Pacific. We are still in Pasadena. Thanks guys for the trip comments. We are having an overall very good time.

Today went according to the plan I was unaware of. I went down to The Original Whistle stop. I walked the 2 miles there but Ubered back. The sun was screaming brightly in the sky. The plan was a few hours at my sisters, walk back to the hotel room for a couple hours and walk back. Visited with my sister and then dinner with the niece, her hubby and us. Decent meal and that is enough said on the meal. Went back to my sister's and about 45 minutes ago walked back. There were a few homeless on Colorado Blvd. the home street for the Rose Bowl parade. But it was a nice walk back.

Tomorrow is get ready to leave a day early day. We are heading to Maui tomorrow late afternoon. My sister is coming with as her PT had an opening tomorrow morning and she was able to cancel her appointment for Wednesday morning.

The overnight 35 hour train ride did deplete the sleep. But I made up for it with a solid 7 hours
sleep last night and a 35 minute nap this afternoon.

It's been fun, many more adventures with basically 4 different trips happening within the 1 big one.

Enjoy the time you have left. Remember we can't take it with us

Wow, It's been over 50 years since I went to the Original Whistle Stop.  I recall that it was on Colorado St (I might be wrong). They had a mountainous layout when you walked through the door; plus behind that, there was cabinets full of HO Brass engines. Nice store. I went there one day and Gary Colman was there and he made sure everyone knew that "Gary Colman" was there...loud and rude!...but he had money to spend so they showed him the red carpet treatment.  I am surprised that the Whistle Stop is still there

I spent a very enjoyable couple of hours at The Whistle Stop pouring through the boxes of parts under the shelves, I think that was back in the early '00s.  I drooled over some brass.  I left happy with a big bag of small stuff, most of which was out of production.

Good Morning,

The coffee's ready as well as the usual morning beverages. Breakfast is assorted muffins and doughnuts.

Tom O sounds like you're having a great vacation; enjoy.

Karl good luck with the PT.

Dave most of the RR shops around here have closed over the past 10 years; sad so now it's either online or nothing.

Rick have a safe hike over the next few days.

What's your plans today.

It's a sunny 61 with a high of 70 in New York. Heard a noise @ 8am in the driveway so went to investigate. A local rental company parked a 4 wheel forklift behind my car so I expect my Contractor will be here soon to lift the new porch roof up and over the porch that's sitting on a pallet on the side of my driveway. Also have to take Mr.B to the Vet's for another checkup and another round of steroids & antibiotics. Can you say "It never rains but it pours" or something like that. Bench time????????

Have a great day!! Be well and stay safe.

Good morning, Tom, Karl, John, Dave, Larry and later arrivals. I'm still in Southeast Iowa, where it's clear and warming up from the 40s overnight. Similar weather is expected through the end of the Old Threshers Reunion. I'd been warned to expect 100-ish daytime temperatures; this is much nicer for work on track and trolleys and may increase attendance.

Yesterday evening we finished repairing and reconfiguring Chicago, Aurora & Elgin #320's control resistor grids.  After fixing one glitch we took a couple of laps with the 110 year old wood interurban.  600VDC glitches often involve light shows, but this one was brief, modest and most importantly, fixable without bringing it back over the pit.

Good morning folks,

TomO, wow, that is some trip.  Bon Voyage!

Karl, good luck at PT.

John, the Original Whistle Stop was some place.

Dave, looks like many visited the OWS.

Larry, thank you for the coffee and breakfast.  I was getting hungry. Good luck to Mr. B and good luck to you on your new porch.

James, sounds like an electrifying moment on the trolley.

Jerry, a beach day always sounds good. The bench can wait.

TomACL, wishing you a relaxing day.

Curt, thanks for posting.  It's happened to me before, and I couldn't bring myself to retype it all.

How is the rest of the crew?

It's a bright day with a forecast of 83°F.  Yesterday, I added ballast to another third of the layout, stopping at the turnouts.  I hope to finish the ballast work today.  Work continued on the lodge, primarily focusing on fitting the windows.  It seems that the paint was just thick enough to stop them from sliding in.  Hooking up the DCC and track is also on my mind.  So much stuff to do.

Have fun,
mike

Yes, and in the process everyone involved learned a good deal. One experienced trolley restorer brought new resistor grids. He'd made a pattern and had an Amish ironworks cast new grids. Resistance was lower than expected; Some was the pattern being a bit oversize, some that the Amish had used regular cast iron scrap. Back in the day there were probably additives which we need to research.  Another guy was a big CA&E fan and experienced trolley mechanic, The locals were younger than me and enthusiastic, but this kind of work was as new to them as to me.  We all enjoyed the second try at a test ride. Then discussion over adult beverages continued for a couple of hours.

Good Morning All,

Today for breakfast is coffee, large muffins from Costco, cereal, yogurt, OJ, and soda.

Started out the day with at 75F and moderate humidity. Today I have a project for MOH assembling a metal platform that connects to a trailer hitch on the back of the van. The hardest part will probably be the heat.

Received notice that the KIR kit is out for delivery. ;D  We get our mail around 3 pm. No status change for the SW kit.

That's enough blabbing.

I hope everyone has a good day.
