Doesn't seem to matter what kind of roofing you use.  It all comes out perfect!  A job well done.

Thank you for the kind comment, Jerry.

I'm set up in the garage for an afternoon's modelling.  I have a very large list of tasks to complete on my project.  Hopefully I can tick a few off!

Cheers, Mark.

Hi guys.

I got a few little jobs done yesterday.

Photo 1 - I cut some tank bodies from some dowel.  I cut planks from 6x1's and 4x1's and glued these to the body.

Photo 2 - I laid a piece of high tack tape on my cutting mat and measured and cut it into strips.  I removed every second strip and painted using Mig rust tracks.  Removing every second strip means the edges get painted.  I used 2 pi r to get the length right, allowing a little extra for a lap.

Photo 3 - I marked the position of the bands at four spots around the circumference of the tank and carefully wrapped them around using my eyeometer 1969 to line up.  I started in the same place with each band and will put the laps to the back.  I added Campbell band tighteners.  They were the only ones I had on hand, but will be looking into getting some better ones.  I painted the top of the tank dark green/ black and added Golden gloss gel.  This was quite thick and so it looks like a windy day.  The base was made from 8x2's.  I still have to add legs, braces and install.

Photo 4 - I made up a blackish brown wash and applied this to the shingles, getting the brush underneath any lifted shingles.

Photo 5 - Once dry I did a series of dry brushes using paynes grey, tans and off whites.

More soon, cheers, Mark.

Howdy, Mark, the tank bands and couplings look terrific.  I like the roofing.  Although Campbell's shingles are old compared with the new ones, you've made them look fantastic.  Nice work as usual.  Have fun, mike

QuoteMark wonderful job on that tank!!

QuoteMark, the tank looks great as well a the shingles.

Thank you for the great comments, Mike, Curt, Larry, Jerry and Ron!

Mike - I still really like the Campbells shingles.  I find this Troels Kirk painting method works very well and is pretty idiot proof.

The tank is pretty easy to do.  I'm pleased you all like the bands - again, very simple.

More soon, cheers, Mark.

Hi guys.

Photo 1 - I made up a sign from some wooden letters.  I attached a couple of strips of 4x4 to some painters tape, sticky side out and attached the letters using canopy glue and a toothpick.  I also had to make a second R from a P and a V.

Photo 2 - Here is the sign made up.
IMG20260412094348c.jpg

Photo 3 - I sprayed the sign matt black and then hand painted the top of the letters using Golden titan buff.  this is the colour I use to tone down my stripwood when I leave it in the bath for too long.

Photo 4 - I used the inside out gym sock to dry paint on Folk Art vintage white.

Photo 5 - Yesterday, after spending several hours working on my water tank, and having just finished a tank stand for the pitched roof, I went for lunch with the dog following me.  Without me noticing, he snuck back into the garage, must have bumped the modelling table and knocked the water tank to the floor.  Michelle found him chewing something on the mat in the dining room.  No prizes for guessing what!  It took about an hour to resurrect the tank (hiding some nasty teeth marks at the back) and I had to rebuild the stand.  It took me until dinner time to forgive Wilbur!  I was lucky he was found so quickly and spat the tank out so quickly, or resurrection would have been impossible!  I stripped off some of the bands, removed the buckles and cut the boards off as shown.

Photo 6 - Here is the tank after applying new planks to hide the teeth marks and replacing the tank bands as needed.

Mark,

So, the dog really did eat your homework.

Fabulous job on the tank, both times.
