Time for another update. . . . . .

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof

It's time to do the roofs.  I worked on both roofs at the same time but I'm going to separate the build process to make it easier to follow.  This update cover the corrugated roof.

2026 challange-099.jpgThe first step was to paint the shiny metal corrugated that came with the kit a grey colour.  For this I used Tamiya gray surface primer.

2026 challange-100.jpg
The first (bottom) row glued to the lean-to roof.  I used 5-minute epoxy for this process.

2026 challange-101.jpg
The second (top) row glued in place.  I could have glued them all nice and straight but that doesn't give the roof much interest.  So instead, I glued a couple on an angle caused by misuse, wind, or some other reason.

The completed roof.  I only partially rusted roof as I only wanted to show some age, with lot's of years of usage still to go.

Shake, Shake, Shake (part 1)

The main roof is a shake shingle roof.

2026 challange-103.jpg
The first step was to make a jig to line up the shingles (I'm always looking for an excuse to make a jig ;D )  The first row of shingles glued to the purlin.

2026 challange-104.jpg
Once the glued dried a bit the shingle assembly was moved down to the lower level.  Tape was used to hold the assemble in place.

2026 challange-105.jpg
The second shingle assembly half completed.  The reason for the jig is to insure that the shingles don't line up during assembly.

2026 challange-106.jpg
The second shingle assemble completed.  There is 8 assemblies required for the main roof.

Construction is as follows:  To do the third assembly the bottom assembly is removed from the jig and then the top assembly is taped down in the lower position on the jig so that the third assembly can be built in the jig.  This process is repeated until the 8 assemblies are completed.

2026 challange-107.jpg
To complete the shingles I took a hobby knife with a new #11 blade and scored the shingles.  I chipped the ends of some shingles to break up the straight edges.  In order to bring out the score lines and also to darken the shingles a AI wash was applied to the shingles.

2026 challange-108.jpg
While making the assemblies I number then on the back so I know what order to install them.  "A" was for one side of the roof and "B" for the other side of the roof.

Ron nice roofing job. It's always interesting seeing how other modelers accomplish things. So once the third building is complete one can only assume there will be tons of details to tackle.

When I've done corrugated roof panels, I run a black Sharpie along the edges.  That makes them pop.  The two roofs look good.
