The Franklin & South Manchester Railroad - it's all about the details!

I took a little different approach when I got the opportunity to take pictures of the F&SM. As a modeler, I wanted to have pictures of each structure from different angles, and to capture the color of that roof, or the brickwork, or the weathering, for reference in my own modeling work. It is all about the details, especially those wonderful castings.  So I took lots of pictures (4997 to be exact in my F&SM directory from EXPO 2013) and have been using them for reference in my own modeling work. The purpose of this thread will be to share those photographs and to encourage everyone who has had the opportunity to photograph the F&SM to share their pictures.  I will post a few pictures each week as time permits.  I will keep an index of the content of this thread here on the first page to help anyone who is using this for their modeling research.

I decided to get this thing started with one of my favorite structures ( I have many favorites) on the F&SM.  The "Green Lift Bridge" in Manchester. I will post many pictures of this structure (it's the details) below but here is one to get us started.

F&SM 1 of  ??? ?.

This post will also serve as the Index for this thread so we can find things later.

4997 photos..................my gosh John, how did you take so many photos? I could barely manage 350 photos on our week and a half trip to England and I felt like I had the camera attached to my face.

I'll be following along and will jump in with a few photos when you get to the structures I have done.

Let the fun begin............... 8)

While visiting George's F&SM last week at a regular open house I happened to overhear a visitor from Wisconsin say that he had visited many model railroads. Some were larger, some smaller, but he had never seen the level of detail that the F&SM has.
I might also add that the F&SM, like the real world, is constantly changing.
This will be a great project, not to mention a great service.

This should be a lot of good modeling information no matter what scale or era or locale we model, and we love information!

Notice I'm already having trouble straightening my back out from looking through the camera.  It was a great day! That's Wayne Olson on the right (standing in front of the Manchester Lift Bridge).

George got the design idea for this drawbridge from a March/April 1978 Narrow Gauge and Short Line Gazette article written by Brian D. Pate, North Vancouver, B.C., Canada.  I discussed this with George last week.  To quote George " I saw that article and just had to have that structure on my layout".  Here are a few pictures of the article so you can pull it and read the article.  The prototype is The Point Ellice Canadian National Car Ferry Slip
