Good morning folks,

Curt, thanks for opening, coffee, and breakfast. Good luck with the chores.

Larry, glad you dodged the storms.

TomACL, congrats on the shed repair.  Those roses can be a thorny task...

TomO, sounds like you have a lot of fun instore preparing for the invitational.

Rick, congratulations on getting the address changes completed. Nice looking photo.

Jerry, wishing you a great time with the grandkids.

How are the rest of the crew?

It's a bright morning on the gulf coast. The wind is still up and the waves are massive. We've no plans for the day except a sunset supper cruise.  We may spend some time on the beach.

Thanks for all the nice wishes for the weekend.

Have fun,
mike

8) Bright SUN  8) in Michigan today, not a cloud to be found.  All the rain we've had still has fields and rivers full of water.  I wished out loud that I had a good rain gage during one of the down bursts the other day.  The ;D Smiling BLUE TRUCK brought me one yesterday, the Doll ordered it for my Father's Day token of appreciation.  But isn't capable of letting me wait for gifts much of the time, so it's out there. Waiting.  ???  Forecast has little if any significant rain in the future, I'd guess we've had 6-8 inches in the last week or so.  Crops are in good shape except a few fields with low, wet spots.  The gage will be a good insurance against too much. ;) The forecast for the next 8 days doesn't show much, nor is there much heat, never climbinog out of the 70s the whole run. Had to run the heat for a short run yesterday around 8-9 just to cut the chill.  :o

Had a great buffet meal at the Mennonite diner after the Estate Sale yesterday, highlight was bread pudding with the chicken and mashed potatos.  Had to bring the Rhubard Pie home.  Look forward to that today.  Real home made crust and tart, sweet pieces of rhubarb in a sweet, thick filling.  My favorite pie.  ;D  May have to buy rhubarb this year, my patch isn't doing well this year so far.  Peach #2, apple, blueberry and cherry fighting for attention.  Mince meat is a holiday treat, not shared by others here, therefore, rare as hen's teeth.  Speaking of hens, bought some Eggs from a roadside vendor early in the week and the price had fallen! $2/dozen, slightly smaller but tasty with my breakfast Wednesday.  One area seller has a big sign "Organic Butt Nuggets" on his sales shed.  Even Duck and Quail eggs are available over by Vermontville. Never ventured there, I did find a robin's egg on the ground once yrs ago and cooked it, "chickened out"  ??? ahem when it came time to eat.

BTW I forgot to add in the $35 State DNR fee for off road and trail use on my truck during the discussin' early in the week.  Glad I don't hunt of fish.  Often asked if I hunt, reply usually is, "Naw, not much fun, I got paid to hunt people for years..."

That's it, gotta find something to eat...eggs, maybe!?

Be well all.

Karl, I bet that pie crust uses lard instead of Crisco.  Both my grandmothers were excellent pie makers, and they agreed that lard was the secret to a good flaky pie crust.

Speaking of eggs, once I got a package of a dozen jumbo eggs, and every one was double yolk. I told my wife, "We're having clones for breakfast!"

I'm cooling off from time on the exercise machine, and will head back down in a bit.  Goal is to finish the light strips over the farm, before the US v Australia game starts at 3:00.

Karl, I have three big rhubarb plants, two I seeded from the one I found here 39 years ago and successfully  moved (just after the ground thawed). My Great-grandmother, grandmother, mother, 2nd wife and daughter all agree: NO CRISCO.  I made an apple pie myself once; followed the recipe but didn't handle the crust dough right and it came out leathery. Should try to do it better while I'm on this side of the grass.

Lard is indeed the secret of a good crust. Also a minimum of handling while rolling it out on a flour dusted counter top. I've made a few. Also cheated using the Pillsbury roll out crust.

Quote from: Jerry on June 19, 2026, 09:39:46 AMMorning everyone

Curt thanks for the coffee & breakfast.
Sounds like you have a cleaning day.

Larry hope you make it to the bench.

Tom sounds like yard work is calling your name.

TomO how big is this layout your helping with??

Rick sounds funny usually you would be saying your driving somewhere.

Weather in South Jersey cloudy/74.  Later 83.
Not sure what's on the agenda today.
We have one of the grandkids here for the weekend.

Everyone have a great day!!  :)

Jerry

Jerry, it's a double deck layout with just over 500' of mainline plus 2 big stacked staging yards. Depicts Northern Michigan and includes the big ore dock at Marquette. The mainline is now running! It needs another good cleaning. I found 3 spurs that needed to be hooked to the buss and that was done. It's good sized and will be magnificent in a couple years with scenery. Track work is very good now but come September andvOps Session season will be flawless. The helix is at least 8 turns. Operations will be scaled back some for next week as the Ore dock has not been nor will it be connected in time. He a retired railroad professional and based on what we get done tomorrow will determine how operations next week will be handled. I except this will be another area layout that appears in Model Railroader or RMC within 3 years.

One thing I have noticed from our current and retired professional railroaders is they could care less about scenery. But the track better be exceptional. Of our 5 today 2 are retired railroaders. Tomorrow out of the 6 guys coming to work 3 are retired and 1 is currently a working railroader.

Rick

Good morning everyone.

49 now, sunny and 78 later.

Coffee, sodas and OJ are ready.
Fresh out of the oven coffee cake for breakfast today.

TomO, that's an impressive layout.

Karl, I've never had rhubarb pie.

Mike, how was the cruise?

Philip, happy that Indy is doing better.

Jerry, teach the grandkids how to shingle.

ACLTom, nice to see you back at the bench.

Curt, how are all the kits?

How's everyone else?

Costco delivery showed up on time and did a fantastic job.
This morning I'm going to the Good Earth SP and meet up with the camera club.
The focus will be on macro photography.
I don't have a macro lens yet but hope to pick up a few tips.

Another picture from the UP on a hike I did.

Good Morning,

Rick thanks for the coffee and breakfast. Sounds like you're getting settled in nicely. Nice photo.

What's on your agenda.

It's a cloudy 60 with a high of 71. The wind finally died down last night after blowing like crazy for the last 2 days. Found out yesterday the vegetable grower down the road had a fire the other day and lost 2 long "hoop houses" along with the veggies growing inside. Stopping there this morning for strawberries for our Daughter so we'll see what was lost; tough break. A couple of errands shortly then we'll see what happens the rest of the day.

Have an enjoyable and safe day!! Be well.

Good morning Rick, Larry and the rest of the crew that drops in later.

Thanks for the coffee and breakfast rick, glad the Costco delivery went well.

Larry, jope the loss wasn't to great for the vegetable grower.

Current weather today is 16c (61f) with more rain.  :o Rained all day yesterday so ended up puttering around all day.  I did manage to get more clean-up done in the layout room and started organizing my new transport system for train shows.  I also added some of the detail parts to the N scale Industrial building I'm in the process of building.  Not sure what today will bring, but I'm sure it will involve more puttering around.

Have a great day everyone.

Morning all,

Thanks for breakfast Rick, coffee cake and OJ. Can't beat it.

Today is 1 year since Pam's mom passed. I'll be spending the day with her so not much if any bench time today.

Have a wonderful and safe Saturday everyone.

Well I just lost my response to Rick's comment about the layout we are working on! Heading out in a few minutes for I don't know how long on the layout.

It's going to be a good one but it's been an agonizing unnecessarily slow build. I could write a book but have been happy to help for the most part. Our crew of 4 have helped build in the 20 months working on this layout 2 others from start to scenery. One of which is much bigger and complex. But it is what it is, we promised to help and we will have this thing ready for visitors Friday. The zoom meeting yesterday decided the priority of work today and for Monday something which needed to be done awhile ago!

55 now 75f degrees later. When I get home Terry and I have dinner reservations at a new to us place.

My favorite breakfast place in Madison announced yesterday they are retiring but were not clear on what happens next to an icon on the UW campus.

Train show today in Madisonville, KY. Out of range for this guy.

Indy is out back again protecting the garden. Still in limp mode but vastly improved.

The tall grass is paging me!

Later!

PRR Modeler

Good Morning All,

Thanks for opening and breakfast Rick. Enjoy the club.

Started out the day with a walk around 80F with high humidity and the added dampness from a heavy rain overnight. No modeling yesterday and probably not today either.

The morning's are spent cleaning pens, washing blankets etc. and by the time afternoon rolls around I'm just done. The amount of support from the rescue is nil and just reinforces my opinion of it. :-X Of course this is all on top of caring and cleanup associated with the 11 adults we have. Sorry I just needed to vent.

On a different note I've started to get lightheaded when I bend over. I've contacted my PCP and will discuss it with her.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Rick, the dynamic range on that photo is really great, it's what makes the shot.

We had a period where there were a lot of reports of medical problems.  Those seem to have died down, so I'm very glad to hear that we're collectively more healthy (or at least not complaining as much, but that is progress anyway...)

Back to layout lighting today for me...
