Sun  8) in 70s forecast for today, 2/3" of rain in the overnight collection.  Threat of 90s next week has a trip North in the planning stage.

Always plenty to do.  I enjoy the procrastination the most...lol

Plenty of WTF and UFO going on.

All I got.

Quote from: deemery on June 24, 2026, 09:40:47 AMA large bed laser would let you make dollhouse walls, and not just the furniture for same...  I've seen a lot of really exquisite dollhouses, some real craftspeople in that hobby.  What software will you use for laser design and to drive the laser itself?   I thought about one of those combo laser/scriber devices (Xtool M1/M2), but the learning curve for the software has stopped me.  Same thing with 3D printing.  I had to learn SketchUp (for a class project when I was taking courses at UNH), and that experience was Massively Frustrating.  I spent most of my time fighting bugs and the tool, rather than actually executing the project (I was building a model of the 'small theater' at Pompeii, the course was Roman Architecture...)(

Anyway, back to the basement in a bit.  After some time on the exercise machine, I'll see if I can build up motivation to tackle some layout projects.

Dave, the Software is Lightburn but able to use others I am unfamiliar with

The workbed has a 20" x 28" surface

I put lots of thought into this (too much where it actually cost me $300 more over last years prices) before clicking the buy box. I wanted to make sure it was big enough for the paper mill walls I build and then for my daughter's side gig

My son's girlfriend last year (T-Giving time)had me scan my drawings (graph paper by hand) and have ChatGPT and Gemini create SVG files from that.  She has some sort of Forge machine she uses to create leather projects and she ran both sets of files for me. ChatGpt in a landslide!

2 reasons I don't own a 3d printer. Smell and the learning curve on creating the files. This was prior to me using Ai programs. So prior to 10/25.

I no longer have the need as the daughter has a 3d printer farm of both liquid resin and whatever filament line is called. She has sold many 3d bleacher sets in 1/32 for the area slot car layout owners group besides her doll house stuff

Her most recently requested item is figures for the dollhouse! She'd like a scanner to create actual people but I'm not getting into that conversation. If I say that's doable it's my credit card taking a ding. I'm too generous with the kids!

The daughter and her hubby will put the laser together, install and test this weekend. I have a few operating sessions to attend and work. I told them go for it. Because it's adjustable to cut vinyl masks I might use masks for graffiti and get back to doing that but that's a few weeks out

Scanning software tends to be expensive. The one Aspen Models uses is 9k.

More here Tom.

Good morning everyone.

56 in North Platte, NE, clouds all day with a high of 77.

Coffee, sodas and OJ are ready.
A traditional Nebraska breakfast of massive breakfast skillets combining eggs, crispy hash browns, biscuits, and a heavy ladle of thick sausage gravy.

TomO, have fun with the laser and the ops sessions.

Karl, procrastinate now.

Jerry, how are you?

Dave, how's the lighting going?

Larry, I miss Wegmans.

Philip, good morning.

Mike, Model T is already looking good.

Curt, hope all is well at the VA.

ACLTom, how are you feeling?

Ron, another race weekend this week.

How's everyone else?

Drove 330 miles and all of it except one small town towards the end of the day was farmland and a few cattle farms.
Should be in Colorado by end of day.

This was at Split Rock Park in Minnesota.

Good morning folks,

Rick, thanks for opening, coffee, and the Nebraska breakfast.  Safe travels again today.

How is the rest of the crew?

Today I'll continue working on the Model T.  Z3 supplies arrived, so I'll spend time cleaning the top and floor mats.  Our Daughter is joining us tonight for a penne arrabbiata meal. The salad will come from our container garden.

Have fun,
mike

Good Morning,

Rick thanks for the coffee and a yummy breakfast. Safe travels and enjoy.

Mike dinner sounds good and have fun with the Model T build.

What's your plans?

It's a p cloudy 65 with a high of 77. A lady I write Star Trek with lives in England and they're getting 90 degree temps which is highly unusual for them. Speaking of Star Trek I posted another chapter for those of you following along. A few errands shortly then the rest of the day is up for grabs.

Have a safe and enjoyable day. Be well and travel safely.

Mike, dinner sounds great.

Larry, maybe you will get some bench time today.

Philip, have fun in the basement.

Current weather is 18c (65f) with a few clouds.  After a very busy week at work, my weekend is finally here plus I only need to work 2 days next week weeing as Wednesday (July 1st) is Canada Day which we get off and I don't usually work Fridays I'm going to take Thursday off.  ;D  No modeling at the bench yesterday but I did spend some time cleaning off the layout.  One more session and it should be done.  We shall see what today brings.

Have a great day everyone.

Good morning, Rick, Mike, Larry, Philip, Ron and later arrivals.  It was raining on the lower Merrimack Valley when I got up. 60-ish now, low 70s later, more rain & maybe thunderstorms this afternoon.  A good day to work inside while the lawn and orchard soak it up.

Yesterday we ended No Mow May & June: the clover had mostly set seed and the chickens were staying in a few mowed paths.  Also to Beantown to a Red Sox game because the kid played his last term in HS.  My first since the 70s, the Sox won handily and I got to see 3 Yankees standing about 15 feet apart watch a high fly fall to the ground between them. Also walked by where I once lived on Marlborough St. Five of us paid about $500 a month for an apartment now condo-ized for north of $1M.  Marlborough St. is still a quiet contrast to the other Back Bay streets, though.

Fog and haze have us hemmed in here in Michigan.  Temps going to 70s today and starting Sunday we will be going into those 90s, one day I saw 96o that has hastened our decision to exit Stage NORTH for a week by Monday.

We're having OPS at Keeney's tomorrow with a thin crowd.  I missed the last time.

Thanks for the encouragement, Rick, I got right to that procrastination ;)  right after I signed off here yesterday.  I may have a bit of that left to do today.  We'll see...later. ???

Enjoy the day all.  I have a carburetor to check out today. :(

Be Well :o

My grade school best friend went to MIT and I visited him in his frat house on the 'water side of Beacon', about the same time you were there.  I also remember sitting in the back of the big lecture hall for a calculus course by The George Thomas (who wrote the calc book that everyone was using for Freshman Calc...)  But I was kinda appalled by the class size, my Calc class at Norwich was about 25 people.  The "lecture and recitation" model that was common in large schools struck me "sub-optimal".

Anyway, down to the train room once the cleaners are finished.  Plan is to install more LED strips.

Good morning crew from a nice day to be in Wisconsin, 75f degrees for the high. Next week our temperatures climb into the 90's with heat indices over 100! Sorry to say, we will miss it. Mid 70's predicted for highs in Pasadena, Ca. and that's where we will be. We leave Wisconsin on the 30th! The following week we will be under the misters in Scottsdale, Arizona while it's in the high 90's. Dry heat or not, that's still hot.

Today at 1 we head north to run trains and hopefully iron out any remaining issues. 2 Sessions tomorrow of 3.5 hours each. After that the 3 of us will not be heading there until mid August. Been there weekly the last 20 months and this month 2 or 3 times a week so far a couple of the crew even more. I've operated at a few of these invitationals and the trains better run well and while it's not my layout I am invested if you know what I mean. Not the best organized build but it is what it is. 2-3 years from now we will look back and say it was an interesting experience. Now, I just want to get through the weekend.

Enjoy the day
TomO
