53 in Nederland, sun & clouds with a high of 75 later.

Coffee, sodas and OJ are ready.
Thick sliced French toast with sides of bacon and/or sausage for breakfast today.
Of course real Canadian maple syrup and fresh churned Wisconsin butter are out too.

Dave, a Christmas movie in August?

Yesterday's hike was a bust.
Very near the start of the trail is turns into a very narrow and rocky scramble.
There's a warning sign at the trailhead stating to be careful because if you slip it's a 1,000' drop.
I turned around.
Not a big deal because the best views are at the trailhead and took pictures there.
Drove to Nederland which is close to the Brainard Rec. Area and that's where I'll do a hike today and tomorrow.

Didn't know yesterday was National Dog Day.
Making up for today.
Star waiting for me to hurry and get to the summit of Mount Elbert.

Rick thanks for the coffee and breakfast. Nice photo of Star waiting for you. Don't blame
you for turning around and not hiking on an uncertain surface. Hope Star makes out with
her celebration of National Dog Day.

What's on your list for the day.

Yesterday was a very busy day for us. Besides being our 54th anniversary Ellie went in for her MRI.
The imaging center called Monday and since they had a cancellation otherwise she would have had to wait until the end of September. After calling the insurance company and my insurance agent I found out the place was in Network with a $400-$500 copay; which I could live with. The scan took about 20 minutes yesterday and when I inquired about how much the copay was they said we were all set; $0. Talk about a blessing!!!! IF her Doc gets the results by 9/3 Ellie has an appointment to get the results; if not then she'll have to reschedule her apt.

It's a sunny 69 with a high of 79 with some rain later. Been doing some research for my next diorama and am in the planning stages at the moment. Depending on how the preliminary work goes will determine if my idea is even possible. Not much else going on here.

Thanks for opening and breakfast Rick. Sounds like a smart decision yesterday. Great photo of Star.

Slept poorly last night tossing and turning. Yesterday I added some extra bracing and NBW's to the second dock and built the frame for the 3rd one and planked it. I put weight on it overnight. I also grained the dowels.

I have to give credit to Terry (Vietnam Seabee) for the tool I used for dowel graining. He took a wire brush with a wood handle and pulled out the wire bristles then drove finishing nails into the holes. It's perfect for the grooving/graining of the dowels but is too hard for strip wood.

Today I hope to color the dowels and cut them to length.

Larry I hope everything works out OK with Ellie. Nice surprise about the $0 copay. Happy Anniversary.

It's an overcast day here with a chance of rain this evening.  Yesterday I finished removing the window membrane from the engine house castings and applied a sealer to the exterior.  I'll probably start painting them today.

Good morning. Another nice 81f degree day is being guessed at. With humidity numbers just in the 30's it's been very pleasant.

No one is visiting the shop today and the last 4 days have been hectic so I might just find a book online.

Today is my Friday. I took off from work tomorrow. I have to get going to my first conference call of the day.

Same small dog situation here.  One owns the couch, and insists we HAVE to sit with her, upon penalty of stink-eye.  The other is always begging for treats or attention, except when he's on the couch.  Then he insists on laying next to me, with his head on the computer keyboard.  Hard to type that way...

Besides doing some work with seafoam tree parts, I'm still reading about lasers.  I'll work up a 'first day' plan for next Wednesday (laser arrives Tuesday, allegedly...)  That's probably burning test patterns on several different materials (basswood sheet, plywod, a couple kinds of laserboard/taskboard/cardboard) to determine best settings for materials, and to make sure the device is in alignment.

Current weather is 20c (68f) overcast with a 60% chance of showers today.  Again no modeling last night as the distraction continues.    So, the local division of the NMRA building theme this season is to build a railroad related shadowbox.  Seeing as I got roped into being the Assistant Superintendent I got railroaded into spear heading the project.    So the past couple of evenings I have been using ChatGPT (because it's free) to make some backdrops.  The first on is modifying an existing photograph and the second is generating one from scratch.  I have been documenting the procedure so I can give a clinic of the process at the first meeting of the season.  Not sure what tonight will bring.

What's your plans today?

It's a p cloudy 65 with a high of 72. Errands to run shortly then maybe some more bench time afterwards.Had a bad storm late yesterday afternoon and knocked out our power for about an hour. About 15 minutes west of us they weren't so lucky. At the east end of the Conrail RR yard is an open space where a school bus garage is located across from the Yard. A bad gust of wind whipped through there and snapped about 8 utility poles in half with all the wires on the ground. That's a lot of new poles to set then transfer all the wires; not sure if they're even done this am.

Thanks for opening and breakfast Larry. It sounds like you dodged a bullet. Hope you make it to the workbench.

Started out the day with a walk at 77F and high humidity from the 4 inches of rain we got over the last 2 days although surprisingly little lightning. Yesterday I finished the third dock except for NBW's. It needs 36 of them...ugh. I also started the porch for the yard master office.

Today after chores I hope to finish up the dock and porch. When I do I'll do another update.

Good morning from Wisconsin where it is 55f degrees now and the guessers say 85 later. It's clear and sunny with the humidity at 100% and at noon it might be at 44%. So another nice day.

Larry, thanks for opening and the pop! The diet Dr Pepper is nice and cold. At least 90 minutes before I can eat but I grapped a bear claw for later.

Vegged out all day yesterday and doing nothing all day is NOT overrated. I was though a bit antsy around 6 but we went out for dinner as a last minute decision. It felt good.

Today will be hectic as I'm hosting the work session instead of the Crew going to the layout 17 minutes east of me. There will be at least 6 plus me and possibly 4 more. There are plenty of projects, enough space in the shop and at the bench. The SIL will man the grill to be ready to eat at 12:15 for Hamburgers. Session ends at 3 today. There will be no modeling projects this weekend as the daughter will use the space for a dollhouse show
