Quote from: jbvb on April 07, 2026, 10:21:02 AMMany more may be found by searching, but I posted model and prototype photos of marsh in Rowley and Newbury, MA on page 9 of my Boston & Maine Eastern Route Progress thread:

Thanks James. I will take a good look.

Super Detailing / Re: Detailing track with debris
April 08, 2026, 11:31:44 PM
Quote from: jbvb on April 07, 2026, 02:51:04 PMThat's a good idea.  I've put real dead & dried marsh grass through a blender to make wrack for the edges of my salt marshes, I'll try it on leaves for the RoW.  Even if prototype track is all new with clean stone ballast, it doesn't stay that way past the first week.
I was somewhat hesitant to put debris on the fresh ballast, but glad I did put it on the newly ballasted track.

Good idea; and it would have a nice scent?

Super Detailing / Re: Reddish dirt road

Quote from: jbvb on April 07, 2026, 09:59:46 AMThis is the best potato field photo I can find from my multiple trips to Maritime Federation of Model Railroaders or NMRA Eastern Canada Division events in NB and PEI.  IIRC his dirt road was about the same shade as the potato field soil.

It's been a decade, but I'm pretty sure this was Steve McMullin's layout. He was and is President of NMRA Canada.  His Blogspot page looks interesting: https://carletonrailway.blogspot.com/

You might find other content of his in the Eastern Canada Division Hot Box, the Northeastern Region Coupler or anything put out by the MFMR. But the current breakdown of WWW indexing isn't helping me find it. There are others in the MFMR and ECD modeling the Saint John River Valley too.

Thanks for the link, James.

Super Detailing / Detailing track with debris

I used an old coffee grinder to make debris. I throw real dried leaves, paper, an twigs in it and apply it to track after ballasting it.

Quote from: jbvb on April 05, 2026, 11:24:12 AMThat looks nice. I've seen similar dirt farm roads modeled on a Saint John, NB layout. He had a lot of potato fields...
James, has the Saint John NB layout posted anything on this forum; elsewhere or in a magazine?

Kit Building / Re: Art Deco Gas Station (HO scale)
April 06, 2026, 01:31:50 AM
Quote from: Yannis on March 19, 2026, 02:31:04 PMHello everyone,

A (still) work in progress of mine, as i have to fill in the details. An art deco / streamline moderne gas station. This is based on a kit of mine (original design, 3d printed kit), that is currently in storage somewhere. Soon it will take it's place on the new layout. I am still on the fence on if i should go for an actual brand at the time (like Phillips 66) for the layout or something made-up.

Thanks for stopping by!
Yannis

This is the completed structure with many details missing (in the meantime i have designed and printed era-correct vending machines and gas pumps)

and the kit parts before assembly.

. Look forward to seeing the details.

I like the idea of using a brand name.

I built this TT from scratch.

It is a manual TT.

Quote from: friscomike on April 02, 2026, 06:18:00 PMHowdy, the bridge looks fantastic.  Nice work on the weathering.  Have fun, mike
Thanks Mike.

I'm not trying to figure out what to do with the inside of it, as it looks somewhat toyish.

I suggest you make a ballasted through bridge. Lay a section of track on the current bottom and add ballast and guard rails.  The toylike, unprototypical bottom will be completely covered.

Mike
Ooops!Typo. I meant to say I'm now trying to figure out what to do with the inside.

I like your idea.

You bring to mind I ballasted my estuary bridge.
