Hi all,
I'm going to try and stop by on opening day (Thursday).  I'll be the one glad handing & kissing babies. Hope to see everyone and then Friday & Saturday I'll be with George hopefully running trains and not wrecking the f&sm railroad & allowing George time to say hi to everyone who stops by.   Hope everyone has a great time at the expo!  By bye! & Buy kits!!!     Thanx Thom...

My wife has given me the green light to venture East for the EXPO2016 as part of my 75th birthday. now I need some help from fellow forum members. I need a ride to and from the Boston airport. I am currently looking on arriving on Wednesday and returning back to Phoenix on Sunday. Before I make any plane or hotel reservations, I wonder if someone could help with my transportation. It has been years since I lived in Boston and would probably find it a struggle to rent a car. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Send me a PM and your phone number and we can talk about what time I am looking at. Thank everyone in advance. Looking forward to meeting everyone at the EXPO.

Hi Frank-  Looking forward to seeing you. I am planning to arrive middle of the day on Thursday and leaving to go back early Sunday.

Here are some options from internet research:

1) Try to find some of our buddies who we can carpool with depending on arrival times. Raymo or Jaime generally available to pick folks up but the cost is high.
2) A Massport express shuttle bus leaving every hour from all terminals at Logan- $11 one way to Peabody. From the Peabody station the free hotel shuttle will pick you up- about 5 a minute trip.
3) Taxi- appears to be a flat rate to Peabody area for $45-55 plus tip
4) My favorite in most towns is Uber, and they are in Boston. It is basically a limo type service and in advance you can get an account and an app where your fare is charged to your cc and no tipping. No cash involved. My kids and I have had good luck in several cities with them- clean car, driver photo id, etc. Just got a quote of $40 to our hotel and it is a fixed rate. You call them when you arrive and they will have a driver who will pick you up within minutes.
5) Rental car but you probably won't need the expense or hassle of that unless you can't hitch a ride to Sunday layout tours. I think all of the convention is in the hotel except for George's layout and there is shuttle for that.

This being said, I don't live in Boston and only have been there a few times. I hope the locals or the convention staff can help in this area as I know a lot of us fly in for this show and information or ideas on ground transportation would be helpful.

Will the East End Market fit in a carry-on? ;D

Dan,

If I thought that I could bring it, you know I would. Nothing like seeing the model in person and to see how much of the real structure was incorporated in the model. Since I have several change of planes, I have to say that it will remain on the layout. Perhaps I could take a couple of photos?

Thank you in advance for helping me with transportation. It is really appreciated. See you and many of the forum members soon.

Mike,
I used to live in Boston back when Moby Dick was a minnow. It was nor fun driving there then and I am sure that it is even more confusing. Dan Raymond has been gracious to let me know that he will pick me up. I have changed the airport arrival to Manchester. Because of the duration of flights, I don't arrive until  about five. Not a good time to ask anyone to venture into Boston.

I look forward to meeting the person on the the other side of this computer. Safe travels and see you and other forum members soon.

Dan,

I would love to bring East End Market to the EXPO, but I am too nervous about even considering it. With four different flights, its a bit too risky. I will take some pictures of it and print them out on a 13 x 19" printer and bring the photos with me. Will that do? Thanks for the transportation help. I'll send you a text confirming the flight #. time, etc.. Looking foward to seeing everyone.
