Today, I did more work on my version of the Varick Freight kitbash.

I've decided to build two Varick Freights. One will be my kitbash and the other one will actually be the background flat as intended out of the box. The flat will be built using the extra parts PostalKarl was so generous to share.

I got the new wall cut out and all the windows and doors fit the openings. The original wall is on the left.

The back wall was cut and the windows fit as well.

The back wall is a little more narrow than the front. I did this so it would fit my space.

I cut and glued a piece trim board to the top of the front and rear wall sections.  I'll cover why the trim board was added later in the thread. I also added all the bracing per the kit instruction but I added more due to my building being much larger. The walls were weighted until the glue dried.

Need a break, so back in a few.

For the track side wall, I cut two pieces of 1/16" basswood and edge glued them. I then applied some scale 10X10's for bracing on the back side.

I then glued the sign to the front of this wall section.

Notice the concrete at the bottom of the sign? I originally had this cut off. However, in so doing I had to make the sign larger. The larger sing didn't look to scale for the clapboard siding. So, I went with my original sign size. The concrete at the bottom will be hidden by weeds and track side debris/details.

More in a few.

Here is a look at the front, track side and rear walls. The top trim piece on the track side wall is not glued in place. I still need to paint this piece prior to gluing it in place.

Reference the color of the structure, I'm still not decided as yet. I like the color of Karl's Verick Freight in the photos above. I thought the color was either GN Gray Green or Pullman Green. Karl told me it is Floquil Driftwood with a heavy dose of A&I wash. Sure looks some sort of green to my old eyes.

Anyway, I'm still thinking of one of the greens mentioned above.

Continued after a short Diet Pepsi break.

Hey Jim,

Thanks for stopping by. The #1 structure will go else where on the layout. Most likely on the third level. If I change the name it can go on the second level a well.

Karl,

Thanks, much appreciated. The signs came from Reading Bob. ;D ;D  I have a few others also.

MISTAKES HAPPEN:

When cutting in the window openings on the wall with the signs, I cut them at the wrong level. I was going to just leave the opening but I'm sure a rivet counter would call me on it.

I didn't want to build another wall and sign so I fixed this one.

More in a few.
