Excellent as always Tom, from you we expect nothing less.

Curt,

Thank you and now the pressure is on to keep going. Hope I don't slip and get lazy.

Tom, the layout just keeps getting better and better. Thanks so much for all the effort you put in to showing us. I can honestly say this thread is the one I check to see if there is an update everyday. I am almost disappointed when it hasn't been.

Dustin,

Thank you for the very kind and generous compliment. It's good to see you on the forum as I know you've been a very busy family man. Thank you for following along, I do appreciate the support.

The water looks fantastic!  I like the larger picture format. My 2 cents. I have been posting one picture per post with the larger format - it helps with the slower loading times.

John,

Thank you for the kind words. I'll continue to use different size photos until I find one I can live with and yet be big enough for all to see. I may go to the 1 photo per posting before it over, I'll see how long it takes for each photo.

I was telling my Babe I may go to the smaller format for builds and use the larger format for the layout photos.

Hi Tom,

The pictures really look great.  A couple of weeks ago I read an article about envirotex  and that it turns brown over time.  So this is one I will have to remember in the future.  You have done a very nice job on the layout with the water and everything else.  Anxious to see what the Swanee River will look like after you get done with the Modpoge.

Steve,

Thank you. Mine turned brown after several years, of course I need to add this was the Envirotex of 20+ years ago. Don't know if the formula has changed. I'll keep everyone posted on the Mod Podge effect.

Tom just got caught up with this once again.  Fantastic water!! Beautiful structures and scenes.

Jerry,

Thank you for the kind compliment on the layout including the water. This has by far been the most fun layout I've ever built.

Nice photos, I'll watch to see how you finish the water area.

Regarding Envirotex: my Rowley River (on a module I'll be bringing to Kansas City for the NTS) was poured ~20 years ago with a little blue/green tint in the third of four 1/8" layers.  I mixed each pour thoroughly, but I doubt I spent more than 2-3 minutes. The color hasn't changed perceptibly.  Another Hub module has a clear Envirotex stream about 3/4" deep; I never asked the owner exactly how he did it, but it hasn't color shifted in 12 or so years.  But we do have a 25 year old pond on one of our corners which browned and curled a bit in its first 5 years.  So it might be careful mixing, it might be thin layers, but I plan to use it for my remaining water areas.

James,

I mentioned to Steve that mine did go brown after several years.  Not sure it was my mix or the fact it was done back in the mid '80s. By 1990 the water was brown. Not sure of any formula changes since then.

I'd like to add that the envirotex water shown below, three gallons, was done in the late 70's and looked nice and clear after 10 years. These photos were taken a few years after the pour.

It was mid afternoon on May 29, 1950. The skies got dark and the water very still. ACL train #7 had just crossed the Suwannee River Lagoon bascule bridge. The engineer tooted at Bridgette, the bridge tender, when the storm hit.

This train was a long mixed freight with another one to follow.

The Boss and I were invited to visit today and met Tom and Greg Demayo. What a great time! These two guys are fantastic and truly made us feel at home.  The storm scene is even cooler in person! I won't steal Tom's thunder (pun truly intended) on how he set it up but it is impressive, as is the entire layout. Having modeled less than a year I was frankly overwhelmed at the complexity and thought put into the layout. I came away with a new appreciation of what can be accomplished and that, when done at Tom's level of ability, it looks more like art than modeling. Thanks for taking so much time and sharing the wonder of your on-going creation from both Deb and myself.

Tom,

you have outdone yourself with the thunder and lightning. Kudos to you my friend. Simply marvelous. Okay, spill the beans, what did you use to get the effects? I want something like this by the steel mill that I am working on. Simply marvelous.
