Sounds like you are still having fun. Your nick name should be Mr. in and out. Put it in then take it out. That dose not sound right. The progress looks good Tom, have fun.

I'm not touching that one Bill..... ;D ;D ;D

I just got caught up on your build thread - as always great work.  The proper term for re-do's is Engineering Changes. Every time I have one on the S&S RR - and the boss says you spend most of your time tearing things out - I point to two pictures I have of the F&SM taken 10 years apart.  George took out a whole mountain range. It just part of the hobby. If you can't find a better way the second time your not getting better. Keep up the great work.

Yesterday, The Judge and I had Greg run a steam loco around the layout. We told him not to go over 25 MPH on the throttle. He said he would give it a try.

I had a picture of Greg at the throttle but I accidentally deleted the photo. To his credit he did in fact run the SAL steamer #492 around layout one time. His knees and hands were shaking so bad he needed to lean up against the bench work to steady himself.

No sooner did he get the steamer back to the station, that throttle went to 40 MPH+. In Greg's own words, "I did it for one lap but just couldn't keep my fingers from turning the throttle higher."

Ya just can't teach old dogs new tricks.

What an experience.....it took a couple of hours rest and a Diet Pepsi to recover from the ordeal when I got home.  ;D

John,

Thanks very much for stopping by and for the kind compliment.

I worked for a road construction company after college. I was waiting to be accepted as a rookie on the Orlando Police Dept. It was March of 1972 when I got the road construction job. I was put on a grease truck. My job was to change the oil and grease all the Road Graders, Bull Dozers, Drag Lines and anything else that needed oil or lube.

They called me a Preventive Maintenance Engineer. However, I told them they paid me like a grease monkey. I made $3.25 an hour. ;D ;D ;D

This morning I started adding the dirt to the sides of the sand hills.

For information on how I did this you can follow it in the link listed below.

http://modelersforum.com/layout-tours/the-atlantic-and-southern-build/1695/

The link is from my Part 1 of the Atlantic and Southern Build Thread. I locked the first part as I was quickly approaching 200 pages. The last time I reached page 200, the server crashed and I lost almost 3 years of thread information.

You can view the old thread but will not be able to respond/post a comment to the old Part 1. Any comments or questions you may have can be posted to this current thread.

More in a few.

The section you see above is just over 8 feet. This leaves me a little over 8 feet left to add the dirt to the rest of the slope around Baker's Curve.

This next section is 28 inches from the Tahope River's edge. I plan to bring the forest area up to the line as shown in the photo below.

Here I have the first of four base scenery layers down.

After the forest area is blended in, I'll have some space and then the start of an 80 tree orange grove.

The grove will be placed between the forest edge and the farm house and small barn. The small farm will have a wind mill to draw water from the Tahope River for the orange grove. To the south of the orange grove and barn will be Ma's garden area with corn, cabbage and others goodies.

I have other plans for the area but I'll share them later. I don't want to give all my secrets away. There needs to be some sort "What is he going to do next" suspense. ;D ;D

I didn't get anything done today worth showing. I did make a few goose neck lamps for Frank's, er, I mean my structure.

John Mancuso, Cuse on the forum, stopped by this afternoon. I think it was the first time in a year he checked in.

Hopefully I'll have something to show tomorrow.
