Tom,

Love the new trees, especially the palm trees. You have to be proud of what you have done in such a short time. Absolutely marvelous. Quick question, are you going to pour water in the basin before the convention? Its a lot of work, but would be over the top awesome. Keep up the marvelous work my friend.

Frank / Erieman

Frank,

Thank you for the kind words on the layout.

I enjoyed our phone conversation this afternoon. Always a pleasure talking to a structure master. At this point in the game, I'm very pleased with what I've done and how it has turned out.

The water won't go in for the conference. I have many more things I want to add to the lagoon and with adding the water I won't be able to make any changes.

I do plan on adding the water in the next few months.

Great looking scene.  Sure looks like Florida to me!

John,

Thank you for the compliment. It is starting to get hot like Florida as well. Oh wait, I turned off the AC! ;D ;D

I'd like to have the nearest Motel 6 franchise to Casa Langford as there's gonna' be a lot of folks "stayin' over" to see this gem!  :) :)
I'd even leave the lights on for them.

Chip,

What a great idea. And, thank you for the kind and generous compliment on the scenery. Remember, leave the lights on.

I really appreciate the kind comments about the palm trees.  I agree that they are an improvement and make the scene look more like a Florida swamp.  I need to confess that my efforts were more in the line of "monkey see, monkey do."  Tom found the paint and gave me the instructions on how to proceed.  I simply followed his instructions and checked out the thousands of palm trees growing  next to the roads and highways in Central Florida to make sure we were making a good approximation.  I don't plan on making 500 more trees but I am sure we will "plant" a lot more of them on the second and third levels of the Atlantic and Southern.

I hope to meet some of you this Saturday at Tom's house during the NMRA Convention.

Bill,

I was trying to give you all the credit. You did do a fantastic job on the palm trees.

When we planted them Sunday afternoon, I couldn't believe how good they looked and how they changed the entire look of the scenery.

Now, my turn to confess. I was't going to plant any palm trees, period. The Judge convinced me that they would compliment the rest of the scenery.

The palm trees did make a difference.

Tom, I couldn't agree more.  The decision by you and Bill to add the palms adds another dimension to your already beautiful scenery.  They add a depth and richness to the "story" you are presenting.
Keep up the great work and enjoy your open house this weekend.

Today I finished the rural cracker house.

I added the rolled roofing material to the main and porch roof. No photos of this as many threads have been done showing how to do this.

I also added the posts from scale 6x6s.

Paul,

Thank you very much, we appreciate the compliment. I don't often listen to the Judge but he was correct on the trees adding more to the overall scene.

I guess you can't say you are still in the shadows. I do appreciate you following along either way.

I also decided to add an LED to the front and only porch on this little house.

I'm using the Miniatronics Surface Mount LED. It is the Yeloglo White, Part #12-625-04.

When lit, it is bright so I needed to tone it down.

I dipped it, with the LED on, in the Tamiya Clear Yellow acrylic paint. I let the first dip dry and then made a second dip.

Here is how the LED looked under the porch roof. Still to bright for me. NOTE: the LED is face down in this first photo.

I turned the LED face up to the under side of the roof and now I have a much more subdued look. I like it.

For weathering the roof, I used Weber Costello Pastels. I got mine some 15+ years ago at a local art supply store.

I used the gray fourth from the bottom. I used a soft brush and applied the pastel to the bottom ridge of each rolled roofing material.

NOTE:  I didn't attempt to remove any of the pastel chalk dust at this time.

I applied the pastel to the opposite side in the same manner.

More in a few. I need a cold Diet Pepsi.

I then used a 1" wide soft bristle brush and pulled the brush down, vertically, from the top. You can see the difference in the photo below.

The chimney was added next.

The cracker house across from the A&S RR station is now in place. After the conference, I'll be adding yard junk weeds and other stuff. I need to adjust the ground scenery as the house floats as seen in the bottom photo.
