Tom, I like LED lighting also and the recently completed Florida backwoods scene you have created.  I used LED lights to light my railroad project and it turned out very nice.

Steve,

Thank you and for following along. I like the look as well. I'm on a mission now to get it finished.

Over the past several years I've had people ask what the yellow and white wires are for. You can see them in the next photo.

These are ROMEX interior household wires and they run from the old four light switches on the West wall by the door.

More in a few.

When I decided to remove the old layout and build the new improved Atlantic and Southern RR, this four switch array interfered with the third level.

I cut a vertical strip out of the drywall and ran the wires down below the first level staging. I turned the light switch array into a junction box.  As you can see I only replaced the drywall strip.

The wires run under the layout into the new switch box as shown below.

The two switches on the right are for the overhead layout lights, the top left is the attic vent/exhaust fan and the lower right is an exterior door light.

The family knows how it works and when the time comes, the door can be reopened, the light switches can be reinstalled by the door. Of course the layout will be gone and so will I when that happens.

Now ya'll know.

Nice update, don't get electrified. ;D

Lynn,

I had an electrician friend follow my doings and all was done correctly and safely. This has been in place for the past four years.

Thanks for checking in.

I've thought about running 110 VAC around my (smaller, simpler) layout, but so far I am getting by with three power strips plugged into wall outlets.  I did buy a coil of 12/2+ground BX armored cable, though, lest I not remember where it was when drilling from above.

Tom,

I luv the lighting. You are making great progress. Can't wait to see it completed and in person.

Normally, your work just blows me away.  I mean, wow.  But, that electric service sucks.  Clamps not secured to cable, sheathing out of the box and exposed (upper right); part of clamp missing (lower right).  Sorry for speaking out, but the old sparky in me couldn't keep quiet.  I'll go back into my corner now.

Take care.

James,

I'm using two power strips elsewhere in the room. One is only used to recharge tools and the other one is for the DCC system.

Frank,

Thank you for checking in on the LED lighting. Over the next three weeks I intend to be finished with the around the wall third level.

Bob,

I appreciate you honesty and comment. Your comments/concerns/opinions are always welcome here. Although I agree in part with your comment, the clamp issue will be fixed and although looks bad,  it isn't dangerous.

My electrician friend pointed out the same concerns but I got lazy and never finished adding the new screws to rear of the box to secure the cable.

Wait a minute here !!!

Time out !!!

When did Bob D become the forum's OSHA inspector?

A little fritzed hair from time to time is necessary to maintain a healthy respect for those electrons that want out of the wire real bad.

Just thinkin' our loud here.
