The loco he is testing the track with is an unpainted brass class D-22 ten wheeler. It is the Louisiana & Arkansas 4-6-0. The builder is Sam Hongsa from Korea and 750 were built.

PFM released this model in 1976 at a list price of $160.00.

The Baldwin built loco had 63" drivers and the L&A replaced them with 69" drivers for better speed. The L&A used this loco for the overnight train from New Orleans to Shreveport. This D-22 class was referred to as the "Hustler".

The Babe purchased this for me from Cliff Powers.

Of course I have a level car for testing the track.

I decided to add a little more detail to the ash pit. I used the simulated fire and flame effect from Miniatronics.

I drilled two holes in the middle of the track nearest to the edge. I then pushed the bulbs through the holes from the bottom.

I removed the track and pushed the bulbs back into the holes. I then glued an orange colored cellophane over the bulbs - not shown.

I replaced the track and dumped the ashes.

I also did a short video of the flickering coals but it didn't turn out to well. I'll do one tomorrow.

The glowing ash looks great!

Also, the Evergreen 'tubing assortment' is one of the most handy packages of styrene I've bought.  I've found lots of uses for small pieces of tubing/rod.  But I try to keep '1 of everything' from Evergreen in stock all the time.  (Same thing for stripwood.  It really sucks to run out in the middle of a project and have to wait for resupply.)

Ditto that!

Good to see you putting the Judge to work.  Lot's of progress since I was last down to visit (which really wasn't all that long ago).   :D

Sure is fun watching and learning. So now that the ashes are flickering and glowing are you going to have the pit smoking and hissing as well? With the thunderstorm happening in the background? It looks great.

Dave,

Thanks, appreciate you looking in.

I have at least two of all the strip wood sizes but am lacking in the "tubing assortment".

Bob,

Thank you, much appreciated. Yes, I had the Judge on his feet much of the morning.

I try to get at least 6 hours of work each day on the layout although I'm in here more like 8-10 hours a day.

Jim,

I'm glad you are enjoying the thread and having fun as well. There will always be thunder in the background.

I do have a few "noise related" details planned for the round house turntable area. Stay tuned for those later this year.

Jim,

We had plenty of thunder and lighting yesterday but sadly no rain.
