You are welcome - I'm glad you are enjoying the photographs.  I hope the Narrow Gauge Convention will be held in this area again. It would be fun to see how much progress has been made on all the layouts.

John...

The last five or six pages have been of Russell Segner's railroad.  It is great and he has made some changes since the 2012 tours.

I've driven that railroad and it is a kick to operate.

Thanx
Bob
Did you ever notice how many towns are named after their water towers ! ?

Thank you for the comments.  I will put a note in the beginning of this thread that the readers should keep in mind that this was a snapshot in time and that in this case the owners have had 6 years to expand and improve their layouts. The photographs are what I snapped as a modeler doing my own personal research for my layout. I take a lot of pictures in a hurry so I can see as many layouts as possible during the layout tours. As always, I thank the layout owners for opening up their empires.

John...

I came to know Russell the year after that NG convention.  He had put down a lot of stuff to get it how you saw it.  It took  lot of tinkering to get it how it runs today.  He had some super light skeleton log cars that didn't weigh anything!  They would not push through turnouts with any dependability.  About  my second visit there in 2013 while I was getting ready for the stem cell transplant I asked him for a track guage.

All of his turnouts were in the tight side through the frog.  He had gotten them from a guy in northern California who is great with making these but is famous for making them tight.  I asked if I could re-guage them for him.  He didn't know me from a bale of hay then but consented.  They were assembled with PC strips for ties in about five locations.  I only needed to open up the stock rails at the frog PC about .030".  After overseeing the first one he turned me loose.

It was a privilege to work on such a cool railroad.  We have become good friends since.

Thanx again for putting these photos up.

see ya
