I forgot to mention how I weathered the planking after it was glued to the deck.

I used the back side of an Emory board and sanded the tops making it look a little more weathered.

That's quite a dramatic difference between the before and after pictures of the stuff you've done so far on the turn table.   :o  :o  :o   Well worth the effort!

I added a turntable operator and glass to the hut. I used clear acetate for the window glass. The operator is a Preiser Engineer.

I also wanted to have the roof curve like the plastic one. I used scale 2 x 10's and glued them to the top.

Bob,

Thank you and yes, it was well worth the effort. It changes the entire look of the Walthers turntable for sure. ;D ;D

The roof on the hut doesn't look bad as is but I guess it would leak like a sieve. 8) 8)

Time to cover the roof on the hut.

I used an Emory board and sanded the roof to the curve of the end walls. I only sanded perpendicular to the boards.

I've been wanting to try a new technique of adding roofing for the past 20+ years. This is such a small project so if I messed up I could simply pull of the 2 X 10's and start over.

I took a piece of tissue paper, not Kleenex, but gift tissue paper and cut it to the roof size.

I then painted some Floquil  Grimy Black to the two boards on the right. I then placed the tissue over the wet paint. I did this two boards at a time and let the tissue paper fall into place.

As you can see the paint soaks through the tissue paper.

I did have to touch up a couple of places. Here is how it turned out.

I still need to weather the sides of the turntable with some rust.

Wonderful job on the turntable Tom!  I really like the wood boards you added to the table.  Looks very cool.

Bruce,

Thank you, much appreciated. The addition of the table planking helps make it look much better and less of a plastic model.

Curt,

Thank you as well. Happy I could pass on some tips for others to use.

For the glue, I applied Elmer's Carpenter Wood Glue with a tooth pick to the underside of the plank and carefully laid it over the plastic. I staggered the planks to give it a more weathered pattern.

Today I painted the turntable pit.

First, I used painter's tape to cover the ring rail and bottom gear teeth.

I then trimmed the tape for painting the pit area.

I taped off the track as shown.

I cut several small pieces of Christmas wrap paper.
