Yo Tom,
I was wondering.  Is one of the "junk" items an old coke cola machine?

The world wonders....

The Diet Pepsi Kid

Cousin Brucie,

Yes, I'll have one old Pepsi and one older Coke machine.

Now, have a suig of Diet Pepsi on me. Out of your bottle of course.  8)

Tom,
Based on this structure came to second to last in the "contest" it looks marvellous. Well done! I think my effort came last so there is hope for me yet!

Time to come out of lurking mode.

Tom, I've been following your scenery projects from the beginning. I'm always amazed at how nice they turn out. I've always wondered how one gets such nice scenes.  Your methods have given me great confidence in trying my own when it comes to finally doing some scenery. One thing I've also observed is how you guys do your buildings and then incorporate them into the scenery by using a base to build them on at the bench and then "plant" them on the layout.

Great thread. Always looking forward to your posts.

Bernd

Bernd,

Thank you for the very nice and generous compliment on the layout scenery. I've had many people tell me this layout has the best scenery they've seen. I'm very humble and appreciate the visitor compliments as well.

Actually, scenery is quite simple to do. The key for me is to have what I need or think I need when a project is started. I layer the scenery and let it be for a few days and then go back and fill in something that doesn't look to me as it should.

Reading Bob builds most of his structures on the 1/2" foam board. If I know he is doing one for me I ask him to leave it off so I can plant is easier. I've done it both ways so there is no right or wrong way in doing it.

Again, thank you and I'm very pleased you are enjoying the thread and getting a few "how to guides" in the process.

Mike,

Funny you should mention it. I was thinking this afternoon that this two story structure only came in 15th out of 16 entries. There is hope for us both brother.

I wouldn't and don't plan on changing anything in the way I build my structures. Structure contests are like my college essay exams, they are both very subjective to the reader and judge.

I spent this afternoon adding some scenery material to the base of the fences and also added the front gate area. The dirt here is about 1/4" thick. Tomorrow I'll check it to see how much of it shrunk due to the drying glue. I'll make the fix tomorrow.

Nice job on the detail work.  Do you think the railroad will notice some of their switch stands are missing?   :)   If that truck gets rear ended, it's gonna make a big kaboom.

If you haven't counted 12 votes for the stories count mine as a yes. I had already read your first story on fences before catching up on A&S progress. The building Bob did is something else. Moreover, so is your salvage yard. I love the little details like the truck sunk into the dirt and the dog, cat and bum. Your tread has a lot of ideas with great photos, thanks for sharing.

You know Tom, that is oneway to clean out your junk drawer and place it on your layout in a junk yard.  This came out very nice Tom.

Jeff,

Thank you, much appreciated. Not sure where the salvage dealer got these. The Atlantic and Southern RR uses the smaller lantern style stands. The tanks in the truck bed are all empty. The two parties are in the office haggling over the price as salvage.  :) :)

Jim,

That's okay, Greg made up the difference on a technicality to get to the 12 votes.

Thank you for the nice compliment on the salvage yard. It was a lot of fun to due.
