I started the Homer paint kit.

As some of you ma recall I was building Tory Hill Lumber. Well I've been out of the modeling game for quite some time and I didn't think my skills were up to it yet. I boxed it up and did a few small projects for practice.

The good news and bad news I've discovered about Bar Mills. I love the designs of Art's Kits, but he pictures are not of the kit, they are of the original prototype build. Example The fan in the window, the trim on the top and the band around the bottom. The broom company shows the tichy windows but you get die cut windows with none open. I built the dock house and it had diecut with separate sashes so your could have some open.

The instructions are a bit sketchy in places.

I have learned to approach these kits as a scratch build with precut walls

hmmm...
not sure what you mean by die cut windows...should be plastic windows in kit
instructions show roof end trim, but yeah, your right ...no side roof trim.
as far as bottom band, I recall there wasn't really any on it, just the edge of floor sticking out.
Sometimes Art will give extra wood in kit so the modeler can trim as he desires. He writes the instructions from my exploded drawings and adds stuff that I sometimes forget.
Call him up if you have questions, he'll talk your ears off about stuff..

 Thanks for the reply Jim. The comment about windows is regarding the Old Dominion building what was in my box is a sheet of diecut windows

I started the broom building. First sanding all the edges square to get rid of the laser bevel. Next up was bracing the walls.

On one of the end walls the 1/16 door frame is also the edge of the wall. The instructions show how to use a straight edge to glue this to the wall. after breaking it off twice I added some bracing across the opening. If i model this door closed it won't matter, and if I decide to open the door shouldn't be too hard to remove.

I think the kit is still available if you're interested. At least it still shows on the Bar Mills web site. I bought one at NNGC in September.

Decisions, decisions.
Do I prime and paint? or stain and paint?
Do I brush or sponge.
I guess I really need to know what and when this building will be.
I'm pretty sure it will be this though
