I just got caught up on your recent progress. It looks great - the location and repairs to the old freight house really look nice. It's great to see you getting back up to steam on the layout. ;)

John,

I appreciate the support and kind compliment. It is definitely great to be back and making significant progress on the layout. It's long over due.

Jim,

Thank you for the generous compliment on the progress. I've tried to stay focused as much as I can. I've found just working through my mental drain, the desire slowly returns and then I'm all in.

You are very welcome on the scenery tips.

Yesterday and this morning I prepped the area where the next structure will go on this 7.5 ft. section. This is also the last building prior to moving to the other side of the road.

I traced the foot print and penciled in where I wanted the parking lot.

I then used  painters tape to cover the area of the building foot print.

I decided to have a gravel lot in front instead of dirt or concrete. The change will make the layout look more diverse. I used some "N" scale gravel. I don't have a number for the gravel. I had it in a small bag labeled "N" scale gravel. Very original and all that. ???

More in a few.

Scenery was then added around the gravel and painters tape. When dry, the tape was removed.

Done for today.

Sorry I am a little late to the party Tom.

Your FSM Station looks absolutely fantastic!  Nice job on the original build and the structure rehab.  You must have had a lot of Diet Pepsi those days....

;D ;D :o

Maybe if you threw in that case of Schlitz beer your handy man might lighten up on his bill.....

Bruce,

Late as you say but here now.  8) 8)

Thank you for the compliment on the FSM freight house. I'm now stocked up on the Diet Pepsi and yes, I did have a few during this latest round of scenery work.

Doug,

That may work but I only offered water or Diet Pepsi. He passed on both!  :-\

Sometimes you just can't beat old technology. I use pencils a lot in drawing for scratch building, making notes and other stuff.

I purchased the one below from Staples at a cost of $2.50 for plastic pencil sharpener.

You stick the business end of the pencil in the hole and slowly rotate the plastic drum around the pencil. Does it work, yes! Does it sharpen the pencil tip, yes! Is it worth a damn, No!

I pulled this next one out of the attic and screwed it to the layout. I'll remove it when I get to that part of the layout.

This is a great example of old technology and the Mack Daddy of pencil sharpeners. It was in my father's office in the early 1950's.
