Rick, those last couple of photos look like lava flows to me.  I should go look up the location of "Thor's Well" on my "Rockd" phone app to see what it shows.  (That's an app that presents geological maps of the world, you can zero in on a location and see what's there, geologically.)

Well, it took me a while to find it (that app doesn't have a good 'search by name'), and I'm right. There's a couple of basalt lava flows there, like the "Yachats Basalt", dating 35-50m years ago, so relatively new as rocks go.   :)

Morning all. Thanks for the grub Larry!

Hope the ops go well Tom O !

Whisky after midnight....  :o  I'm a lightweight in my old age.

A late night last night fiddling with the manual crank Unimat milling machine. Project install decoder phase one done. Hope it fits! Bernd told me to go slow, boy was he right, never seen die cast weld to a cutter. Turned out great. Planning an install thread soon.

Mike. Still in May Kentucky has four seasons in one day. Ah the red clay of Fort Knox!

Glad your better Curt!

Myrtle was a panter & hated lightning. She would Paw ya to death Rick. She would let us know 4 hours before the storms came.

A concrete project today in the green house, now that the bad post is finally fixed.

Have a great day!
Philip

Track work continues upstairs, and 3D printing continues. I am working on the water tower base today.

Have fun,

Nice day, but a bit cloudy. The a/c guy found a new compressor for the old a/c system and will put it in tomorrow, at substantial savings, to hold me over till I have everything ready for a whole new system. Big .....YEAH.  ;D

Y'all have a great one.....

Good afternoon.

Running trains is fun, operating on a layout for me is even more enjoyable. But running sessions on my own layout is priceless! We did run 2 sessions. The plan was 90 minutes for each. Used 2 different switch lists and during the 1st session it took about 100 minutes but the 2nd session was not even an hour even with some track issues. The guys who were here had some ideas that I need to unravel from our after session talk regarding the switch lists. 3 of the guys prefer car cards but I prefer switch lists. My layout is small. Just 61' of mainline but with 2 separate staging yards each 2 tracked and 30'

The 1st session we had some couplers get hung up on a couple crossings. I need to clip all those Kadee couplers and now repair both crossings. I use Kadee #148's and whatever the shelf coupler number is. But that was minor. We did have some switch issues in the 2nd session. 3 ME switches basically failed. 1 the cross tie that moves the points became loose and I think I'll change it out to printed circuit ties and solder the points to it. The other 2 I will look closer at tonight. Both seem like the frog just rose up to form a hump. The cold storage warehouse track is 8' long and has 2 feeders on it. The 1st 4' after the switch was dead. It worked great last night and the 1st session. The 2nd session it was dead and confirmed by the multimeter! Each section does have power on/off switches. I am not a big fan of sound in the reefer cars but I do have some that rumble at a low volume. I want to easily turn off the sound without touching the car. The grandson has no practice tonight and said he'd help me. I know we will end up at the ice cream shop unless he wants a concrete mixer from Culver's (I can Hope)

Overall I'm thrilled. I knew there'd be some issues but I think the ones we have are minor.

A quiet night tonight. The daughter and hubby have gone to dinner and then to see a play. Clue! I thought it was a musical but it's not, just a play. Terry and I go Thursday night to see it. The 13yr old granddaughter is with 2 friends, the 19 year old twins from the old neighborhood. They have played with and watched Harper since she was born. The twins parents have sold their house. The twins are going to spend a final sleep over tonight with Harper at their old house where H has slept many nights. So it's Terry, the grandson and me for dinner here. After dinner Terry is visiting a friend. One of the guys will be back tonight to work with the grandson and me and has a set of F7's he wants to test run

Enjoy the evening

Man, that's a Really Big Deal!  We found the hard way that touching an A/C system more than a couple years old would entail pretty much replacing the whole enchilada because of the laws governing refrigerants.  Your A/C guy sounds like a real keeper for hunting down that part.

Coffee is on crew and James brought donuts in the other lounge.

Have a great day I'm mixing and laying walk maker brick and oh the pain!  :)
Later!

TomO/Tloc

Good morning from foggy Wisconsin.

The coffee is hot, Ashpit blend, the sodas are cold in the cooler along with other drinks. Breakfast is quick this morning. A sourdough dough English muffin, bacon, egg and cheese. Enjoy! Another pot of coffee from Philip's won't hurt you coffee drinkers, his coffee is 3 minutes hotter than mine!

Walking in fog was interesting. I cross streets in 2 places but the major intersection I would cross has a bike and walker tunnel. The iPhone health app says I did 8011 steps on the walk this morning. By myself with my music. Feeling good.

Not 100% sure what sleeping beauty has planned today but while I'm thrilled with my layout I need a couple replacement switches and right now I have no desire to build them.

Enjoy the day

Rick

Good morning everyone.

Philip, thanks for the coffee.
Take it easy with that manual labor.

TomO, thanks for the second cup and breakfast.
8,000 steps is excellent and glad you're feeling good.
Other than those switch issues glad the ops went well.

Greg, great news about the A/C.

Mike, how'd the water tank base turn out?

Ron, I don't think the thunderstorms in FL. ever stop.

Dave, lava flows makes a lot of sense.

Curt, hope you're feeling even better today.

ACLTom, what else did you get at the hobby shop?
