I'd leave the door open a tad also.

You could also put boards on the rafters to hide them if you can't get them apart.

Howdy Jerry, thanks for your input and idea to correct my mistake.  I've been putting off going upstairs and trying to pry it off...  Have fun, mike

Great work Mike! I'd take a scratch awl or heavy sandpaper and obscure the contour lines in those brick faces.

It's gonna be nice!

Can that be printed vertically?

Philip

Howdy folks,

Philip, thanks for the comment.  I don't know, having not tried it, but I don't see why not.  It would be faster because bulk printing is easier.  I can't see the print lines at 12" distance.

Have fun,
mike

Howdy folks,

My benchwork is on the water tower roof, specifically the shingles.  Here are photos of the first hex segment and three completed.  Just three more...

The segment is around 3/4" at the base.  The shingles were applied to .03" plastic.

Three segments today.  I'm still thinking about what to use at the hex segment peaks, singles or wood strips.

I'll tweak the shingles and dry brush them after they are attached to the tank body.

Have fun,
mike

Howdy, those are from Rusty Stumps, straight cut, shake.  I am rapidly running out of my stock from RS.  ~mike

The prototype might have just put a drop of tar at the top and along the seams.

Howdy folks,

Dave, thanks for the comment.

The segments are finished and ready to be assembled.  Here is a photo with the segments resting on a printed paper template.

Just wow! I want to share the way I did a roof similar. I place scale 1x2 or 1x3 so it didn't need capped at each seam. Lower roof is the same. I cut it out with a steel nail file I stole from Gena. Basically a dado cut. Added some old watch parts as the finial.

Mike, outstanding job on staining those shingles.
I don't think you shared how you did it.

Jerry

Mike excellent work on that roof.

Howdy Philip, thanks for the comment.  Your technique is what I used, and the roof looks similar.  Your tower looks fantastic.  It's a beautiful model.  Have fun, mike

Howdy Larry, believe me, it was fiddly...real fiddly.  I used plastic as the underlayment so it would be easy to glue the wedges together.  I don't have good luck with superglue, maybe it's old. Thanks for the comment.  Have fun, mike

Howdy Rick, thank you for your kind words.  I brushed a coat of a dark weathered grey stain on raw cedar shingles.  I followed up with a light barnwood stain from Dr Ben's applied with a sponge.  Finally, I sprayed this with an A/I mixture from an old hairspray bottle.  Nothing fancy.  I try different techniques on every roof I build.  Have fun, mike
