Mike, sitting in the wings I have been watching your build. Looks great to me.
I also have one to finish building, so I will be looking for your great tips.

Mike, Howdy,

The water tank looks great. Excellent work. Love the stone/brick color.

Howdy folks,

Rick, Ron, Philip, Rich, and Tom, I appreciate your kind words and encouragement.

Here are a couple of photos of the build to date. The tank hoops are plastic sprayed with dark brown camo paint and splattered with rust paint.  I made hoop tensioners from a piece of flat plastic and round wire (representing a threaded bolt).  We'll see if people are fooled when I install them.

I just noticed the roof below the tank is 90° out.  The boards should run across the beams, not with them.  Darn!  I don't know if I can pry them loose, but I'll try.

The tank is mostly weathered.  I'll add a bit more when it is all assembled.

I finished the door on the right side of the base, but I need to glue it in place and touch up the paint.  Should I leave the door ajar or shut?  I don't have an interior planned other than a water pipe from floor to ceiling.  I need a light on the outside over the door, too.

I cut out the roof hexagons from some old ribbed HO plastic and stained the cedar shingles. Although the roof will be supported by rafters at the joints, I am hoping the ribs will keep the plastic from sagging.  Perhaps tomorrow I'll apply the shingles.

I looked at the cast brass spout on hand and think it may be a bit large for the tower.  It is good-looking and I may use it anyway.

My back hurts!  Think I'll have a martini.  All are welcome to join!  8)

Have fun,
mike

Well, Mike, I feel better to know someone else does "glued the boards the wrong way" mistakes!!  With a little luck, you'll be able to dis-assemble the floor, and any breakage would probably look like more weathering.   ;)  I also like how the green toned down.

Mike the water tower is looking great. It's a pity the boards are going the wrong way.
If you can get the tank free, you could lay another layer of boards on top of the ones already
there, going the right way, to save you some frustration. I'd leave the door ajar just a little for interest.

Howdy Dave, yeah, the green was bright.  I used the same technique I used on the depot and maintenance shed to tone it down.  I don't want people making YouTube videos about how GREEN it was.  ;)  Have fun, mike

Howdy Larry. The tank isn't attached yet, so hoping I can pop the boards off with a putty knife.  Fingers crossed!  Thanks for the door comment, I feel the same way about it.  Have fun, mike

Mike, the weathering on the tank and bands turned out excellent.
I'm sure you'll be able to fix the board issue.
How'd you make the water stains on the tank?
I agree with Larry about leaving the door just slightly ajar.

Howdy Rick.  Thank you for your support!

The water stains are from Vallejo white primer and a fine brush.  The black mildew stains didn't show well, so I may kick them up a bit. I used prototype photos as guides.  Have fun, mike

Great work Mike the green looks nice now.
I'd leave the door open a tad also.

You could also put boards on the rafters to hide them if you can't get them apart.
