Howdy folks,

Tom, I really appreciate your kind comment. They make me smile.

As I worked on structures, I was reminded that it was a train layout, so I positioned a few cars to help motivate me to get under the layout and connect those drops.  ;D

Hmm, there needs to be a locomotive there, too.

Have fun,

What a great looking scene.
It looks like you have just enough room in the front for a road.
Is that the plan?

I think I see photographer O. Winston Link! Superb work Mike!

Howdy folks,

A long sought after kit, Stoney Creek Designs Oil Well, kit arrived in the mail today.

Hats off to Darryl Huffman for the excellent packing and speedy shipping.

The kit is not much more than a 2 x 4 block and a razor blade, but I'm  excited.  It will be a long build.

It will go in the lower river area by the bridge.  I hope it is not too much wood in one area.

Have fun,
Mike

Howdy Rick,

Indeed, the area in front that is still white will be a dirt road.

Stay tuned,

Howdy folks,

Curt, Rick, Larry, Dave, and Jerry, hats off for so many nice compliments.  Thank you!

The lust for revenue on the layout drove me to open the Stoney Creek Designs Oil Derrick kit.  I was not disappointed, but certainly overwhelmed.  The kit comes with a CD with 160 instructional photos, 20 printed pages of background and instructions to go with the photos, castings, including a nice forge, a blacksmith, etc.  I swear, you could build a real oil well with these plans.

There are around 160 pieces of strip wood in varying sizes.  I was able to distress and stain 114 today before my hands gave out.  Arthritis will be visiting tomorrow.  This will be a long build, so I'll probably weave a few other layout-related projects into the thread.

I didn't have a lot of luck with the card file, so I mostly used the old fine-toothed razor saw.

Okay, that should get me started here.

Have fun,

Mike, I know you'll do a great job on this kit.
No need to rush the construction.  ;D
Have fun with it.

What a kit!
