The comparisons with Malcom Furlow are very appropriate.  Besides the Southwest locale, there's the consistent color palette between the foreground scenery, the backdrop, and the weathering, there's the well done but somewhat fantastical backdrops, and the way the scenery dominates the layout.

Thanx Dave, and thanx Phillip;

I consider it a wonderful compliment Dave, Malcolm was indeed quite the artist.  I do try to have the landscape and scenery 'dominate' to a certain extent- :) since that's how it is in nature...much more 'scene' than trackage- I try to have the 'rural' or 'wild' areas be the star. ;D  ;D ....it's ironic that you should mention 'fantastical' in your description; I went on line to find images of natural 'stone pillar' rock formations ??? and there were literally hundreds of them throughout the world :o  :o  :o - although not so many in the US ??? - which I found odd....but never the less I decided to 'install a couple in the backdrop to accompany the 3D version in the scenery... ;D  ;D I call them "Tres Hombres" 8)  8)  8) ...being a Texan and all (ZZ Top reference intended 8)  8)  8) !!!!!!!)  I call the 3 mountains on the horizon above Grizzly...'Tres Hermanas' ;D  ;D - THREE SISTERS in spanish ;)  ;)  ;) ....I'm very glad you like the look..... ;D

Phillip...thanx for mentioning the medium I use ;)  ;) it's not often noticed.  Almost everyone just 'assumes' it's painted.  I have noted the use of pastels in my posts, and highly recomend their use ....THEY ARE VERY FORGIVING ;)  ;)  ;)  ;D .......

I decided to this morning (Monday) to bring the whole scene we're currently discussing into the foreground a bit :o  :o ...by adding some larger trees TO THE PILLAR and in front of the red cliffs; almost blocking them out - as it would be in nature. 8)....I hope it works, there will also be more even larger conifers in the immediate foreground added as I progress along today.  I work in 'spurts' :o so as to allow the thing to 'grow on me' ;D  ;D .....here's some shots of the thing so far this AM ;D  ;D

Ya'll keep stoppin' by ;D there's always plenty happening at the G&D Ry Co. 8)  8)  8) ...thanx again for all the kind comments and obsevations.... ;)  ;) ....see ya.......

Hello Kyle, the backdrop just keeps getting better and better. Very nice work.

I think you'll want a couple of trees closer to the backdrop, but not as tall, to get a bit of a perspective effect.  But overall the entire scene ties together very nicely!
