Rick

Good morning everyone.

Joseph, OR weather: A chance of showers and thunderstorms between 2pm and 5pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 5pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 86.

Larry, thanks for the coffee and muffin.
Hope Mr. B will be alright.

Curt, good job diagnosing the AC and hope it's running perfectly again.

Mike, congratulations to your SIL.

Dave, glad the dog is doing better.

Karl, hope there is only good news at the doctor.

Jerry, any thoughts on a small floor standing AC unit for your room?

TomO, I saw you FB post about working on your friends layout.

ACLTom, 8 strikes in a row is impressive.

Philip and Ron, anything going on?

It's 10+ degrees cooler here up in the hills above Joseph.
I did drive into town first and walk around town with Star.
After lunch treated myself to a milkshake made with ice cream and milk.  ;D

Today I'm making a beeline to Spokane.
My left leg started hurting on the side about 6 inches above my ankle.
Now my foot is swollen and painful to walk on.
It is not an injury from hiking.
I didn't twist or bang my leg on anything.
I think it's from eating things I normally don't eat while celebrating my birthday.
I'll go to an ER in Spokane and have them check it out.

Rick, I wonder if you got bitten by something.  I had a bug bite that got infected a couple weeks ago.  A combination of oral and topical antibiotics knocked it down.  Antihistamines helped, too.

Good morning crew and busy in here and a plenthora of activity!

I hope my ac makes it........ :-\  it's a Whirlpool/Bryant HVAC 36 years...

Our cat was drooling last check-up and had dental problems. Two or three teeth removed and a hereditary condition.

Today is the last smoking hot day, sound like relief on the east side! Come on!

I found a newer cheaper 3d modeling software. I uploaded it last night on a 30 day trial, after that it is $150 for life.

Not good Rick! Hope it's not serious.

Have a great day!

Quote from: deemery on July 30, 2025, 09:36:58 AMBerkshire Hathaway will be under a lot of pressure to buy CSX and merge it with BNSF.  Warren Buffett tends to not like those high pressure situations, so it'll be interesting to see how they handle it.  Arguably, this is a big test for the new Berkshire CEO.

dave

I am a believer, follower, investor and belong to the Buffet cult and proud of it and the $$$ he has helped us make since 1990.

However, I am questioning the tremendous hoard of cash he has. I truly believe Berkshire Hathaway should top UP's bid for NS as I think BNSF/NS is a better fit than UP/NS. A cash offer would in my mind be a great investment. I really feel intergrating NS would be less disruptive then UP doing it.

You are right while Warren still is the top dog at BH he will not feel pressured into an investment. He's earned that right for demonstrating his skills in years past. I just think if he throws 90 or 95 billion as a number at NS, UP may bink! NS because of due diligence would have to review and accept a complete cash offer. I'm not sure UP can counter that huge cash offer. Seeing this play out will be entertaining for the next 12-18 months.

No matter who NS goes with I think it sails through followed closely by a CSX takeover

YMMV

Good morning from a cooled down Wisconsin. We should top out today around 75f degrees. But and there always seems to one, the whole state is smoke covered. I don't understand it but the honorable Tom Tiffany from the northern Congressional district in Wisconsin along with a few other party members sent a letter last week to Canada. The letter basically said get your forest management in order and control your wild fires. The joke around here has been tariff the smoke to stop it!

Smoke haze is covering Wisconsin. It should otherwise be a nice day. Unfortunately for my COPD suffering spouse she has hit her inhaler already this morning. She went out to check on her planting beds! She'll probably need the inhaler again when we return from brunch.

Both my appointments this morning (dentist and GP) went well. The Novocain is wearing off and even the lab vampire was gentle this morning!

Because of the smoke haze after brunch we will stay home. Any overnight trips she wants may happen Sunday or Monday. Better off at home with her COPD and the smoke than being on the road with the haze.

Be well

Get it checked asap, for sure Rick

This morning getting ready to cleanup for the Dr we found a tick burrowing into my lower left leg above the ankle. It had a firm grip and took quite a pull with the tweezers. It's left a real ugly bullseye mark on my leg. Angry looking. Glad I have my doc appointment already or I'd be at Doc In-A-Box for sure. Little faith in the doc or his staff of prevarication specialists.

Good luck with the ankle.

TomO best to you and your lady with the smoke. The air is blue in MI as well. Best to Warrrn and his trainset. And Your money.

Well it is about noon so good afternoon;

Rick ankle does not sound good, hope it goes well. Loved the McCall Photo, always wanted to get there, never did.

My issue with Berkshire and Warren has always been the incredible amount of cash he keeps on hand but never invests or returns to shareholders as dividends. For years he could say Berkshire was a growth company so needed the cash but that has not been true for ten years at least. Buying either CSX or NS would in long term be a good move but something tells me he would rather sell Burlington then buy another railroad, time will tell.

Yesterday went to dermatologist who said skin looked fine and then burnt half the face off with nitrogen. Hurts plenty today. Also had the kids groomed, they seem OK with it today as you can see. Well off to an online class, have a great day.

Karl, the only thing worse than a tick in a location you can't remove yourself is one in a location you can't even see...  (Personal experience, ticks were Really Bad at Ft Bragg, NC and we did tick check each day on each other during ROTC Summer Camp.)  A dose of (prophylactic) antibiotics is usually in order after a well-embedded tick with a ring...

Good afternoon everyone,

Another sunny and hot day here.

Late checking in this morning due to a number of meetings I had this morning.  No modeling last night as I spent some time changing the settings on the new car to my liking.  It's an exact replacement to the one I totaled in Florida.

Found out through the insurance company that the driver of the car I hit is trying to sue me for injuries he claimed I caused in the crash.  Good luck with that one as I have Dash Cam footage of the crash and at no point in the video can I find anyone near or in the car.  I forwarded the video to the insurance company, plus the fact that the police reports says I was not at fault, the insurance said not to worry about it.  Should be interesting.

Hopefully tonight I'll get to the layout.

Have a great day everyone.

Ron, a story about a traffic accident and the Other Guy going to court.

Wife was stopped at a traffic light.  When the light changed, she started to drive into the intersection.  The Other Guy pulled around a person stopped at the opposing light and plowed into my wife's car (passenger side, fortunately.  She wouldn't be here if someone hit her cheapo Fiat on the driver side.)  The Other Guy was written up, he went to court to try to beat the ticket.  Wife was put on the stand.  Other Guy's lawyer walked her through the accident, claiming she ran the light.  Then he asked, "After the accident, did my client come over to offer assistance?"  Wife said "No, the person he ran around before hitting me came over.  Other Guy just stood and stared at me."  Other Guy's lawyer turned and glared at his client.  "No further questions, your honor."  (A lawyer never asks a question he doesn't know the answer to...)  That third person was also in court and testified next, corroborating my wife's version.   In his summation, the judge said, "I find 'Other Guy's' testimony Not Credible.  Other Guy is found guilty, including court costs."

I did get an Rx for an antibiotic and finally got some action taken on referral for my back after I  threw the book at uncooperative people. PT starts next week.

Good Morning All,

Today for breakfast is coffee, cereal, assorted donuts, OJ, and soda.

Started the day with a walk at a feel like temp of 91F.:o

Yesterday will cost a lot of money. The repair was going to cost $3K+ so we bit the bullet and are getting a new unit on Monday. To tide us over they refilled the freon. By bed time it was a glorious 78F (what we keep it set at). The current unit is 20+ years old with more and more repairs. Of course that's the day before we leave for the Cass RR in WV.

Today after animal chores are errands and checking car fluids and tires before the trip.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Good morning folks,

Curt, thanks for opening, the coffee and breakfast.  Good luck with the new unit. Repair costs are insane these days.  Safe travels on your trip.

Rick, hope your leg is better today.

How is the rest of the crew?

It's a bright morning headed to 89F today.  I doubt we'll have afternoon showers, but you never know.

Our SIL's retirement as city fire marshal was a fun event. There were many funny stories shared by his associates.  Now he is off to his new adventure.

I managed a little time to finish painting the base coat on the layout.  Today I hope to continue the process.  I also started another structure, the Masonic Lodge, using Rich White castings.

Have fun,
mike

Good morning, Curt, Mike and later arrivals. The rain stopped an hour ago and sun just broke through over the NH seacoast. Today will still have a high in the 70s, though it will get warmer over the weekend. This year I managed to beat the deer to my young Reliance peaches: 4 nice fruit means less to buy at the store later.
