A snowy and cold morning from Rochester,NY. Just got a dusting this far west from the east coast.

Went to my first RPM meet this past Saturday, "Rochester Railroad Prototype Modelers Meet". Was very interesting to see some outstanding modeling. Otto VanDrak, editor of RMC was there since he lives in Rochester. Also caught up with a couple of Rochester Model Railroad club members I had known when I was a member of the then called Kodak City Model Railroad club. Didn't stay for any of the clinks because I just wanted to see what it was all about. Looking forward to next years show and maybe even signing up to display something.

Morning crew!

Happy Birthday to Ms. Sharon Mike!

Yesterday was mostly flurries but the temp tanked around 13 with the wind chill. Super breezy again today.

Have a great day!

Mike Happy Birthday to Sharon!  ;D

Afternoon, all.  The wind still roars high above my house, and fine snow blows past my window. But lunch was fresh bread and a pineapple upside-down cake baked in the cookstove, so downstairs is warm. Can't say what the level fall is, but the shoveled path to my back door has 8-10".  Plows appear to be waiting for the wind to die down. Supposed to be windy all night, but I have to go out before dark to free at least one car. The kid slept over at school, but didn't take clothes for tomorrow (to be fair, I didn't try hard to persuade him).

Good morning everyone.

It's 45 now in Prescott and a mix of sun and clouds later with a high of 67.

Coffee, sodas, OJ and hot chocolate are ready.
Pork roll, egg and cheese on an everything bagel for breakfast this morning.

James, I'll have to look for that thread.

Philip, thanks for your hard work on the FB page.

Bernd, glad you enjoyed the meet.

Karl, making any layout progress?

Ron, hope there was bench time last night.

Dave, I like that first picture from Japan.

Jerry, so, how much did you end up getting and how's your back?

Larry, hope the 1:1's aren't interfering too much with 1:48 time.

ACLTom, what's new in the shed?

Curt, did you get to the water tank?

Mike, still out traveling?

Hope everyone else is doing well.

Star's paws are fine.
She's tough.
I pull the spines out and she runs off like nothing happened.
Ended up in Prescott yesterday.
Walked around downtown some with Star.
Another hike planned for today.

The view once you reach the top of the Vulture Peak Trail.
This is what's on the other side of the mountain.

Good Morning All,

Thanks for opening and breakfast Rick. Beautiful photo. It reminds me of growing up in the southwest.

Started out here with a 36F feel like temp and getting up to 61F later. Tomorrow is supposed to be slightly cooler. Yesterday during my walk I somehow managed to bruise the bottom of the left foot so I now have a very tender foot.

In the train room yesterday I built the water tank platform which was fiddly. The tank is resin and has it's initial color applied.

I need to do some thinking about the barn roofing. The kit says use strip wood to cover it but I don't entirely like that idea. The barn is located in the backwoods so I guess that makes sense. Does anyone have any ideas? I don't want to do tar paper. Maybe wood shakes?

Anyhoo.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Good morning, Rick and Curt. Beautiful picture, Rick, but that dry landscape is a reason I'll never live in our Southwestern deserts. Love to visit, love to get home where it's green. The sun is shining through a thin overcast well above the trees and it's 25F. Snow cover on open ground is up to about 2 feet  in the lower Merrimack Valley. My 2nd wife an her husband had to rent a U-Haul to get out of DC today; no rental cars, no seats on planes or trains.

I have errands to run this morning, including new shear bolts for the 7 foot snowblower. My wife is sore from the shoveling she did too.  Likely we'll do Taco Tuesday tonight while picking the kid up from two nights at his school.  And I have HO scale shingles and windows to order, plus an insight about how to fix a scratchbuild problem.

Good Morning,

Rick thanks for the coffee and breakfast. Gorgeous photo. Glad to hear Star is o worse for ware. Hike safely.

Curt hope the foot feels better. I've done wooden shakes for a roof using scale 1x10's. Grain and colored them first then I cut them 2 ft. long and lap them a foot. I also vary the exposed lengths to add some interest. Word of caution is does get tedious but the end result is well worth the effort; hope this helps.

James that's quite the snowblower; 2 passes and my driveway would be done. I can't imagine the mess some of the New England states are in right now.

What's your plans for the day.

It's a cloudy 13 with a high of only 18 but it's warming back up tomorrow. Probably spend some time at the bench this morning then work on the 1:1 project later in the day.

Have a great day!! Be well, keep warm, and stay safe.

Morning Fellow Forumites,

Happy belated Birthday to Sharon.

Thanks for breakfast Rick. Looks like the hike to Vultures Peak was well worth the effort. What a view.

I hope our northern forum friends didn't get hit to hard with storm the weather weenies have been talking about. As Curt said it cold here and if it never gets below 40 again, it sure is fine by me.

Pam and I have bowling today and then late lunch with friends.

I started prepping the location on the layout where Horwood's build will go. Update on that probably tomorrow.

Have a warm, healthy day everyone.

There was this short window of time when it looked like Russia would become 'part of the rest of the world.'  They were sending representatives to participate in standards committees and hosted our committee.  Before the meeting (which ended up in Moscow), we visited St. Petersburg in 2007.  This is the "Church on Spilled Blood", built on the spot where a Tsar was assassinated in the 19th century.

St Petersburg is a beautiful city and the Hermitage is definitely a world class museum.  But the best summary of that experience was "First world prices, third world service."  Unfortunately, things have gone downhill since we visited.

It's sunny, and there's about 8" of fresh snow.  Roads are plowed so things are back to normal here.  Further south, particularly south of Boston into Rhode Island, is a whole 'nuther story.

I finished the roof panels for the farmhouse yesterday.  Today will be more final assembly and detailing.

Good morning Rick, Curt, James, Larry, ACLTom, Dave and the rest of the crew that drops in later.

Risk, what a coincidence, I'm also in Prescott, OK, Prescott Ontario. ;D   Thanks for the coffee and breakfast, the picture was worth the hike, enjoy today's hike.

Curt, you could try a "board and batten" roof, I did that on my tractor shed and was very happy with the results.

James, have a great day.

Larry, enjoy your time at the bench, hope the 1:1 project isn't to complicated.

ACLTom, good luck bowling today.

Dave, that is a beautiful building.

Cloudy skies here with the current temperature at -17c (1f), it's a good day to stay inside.  No bench time yesterday as I spent time on the computer drafting the plans for the alligator warping tug I plan to build in the future.

Have a great day everyone.

Temp in teens, breezy and COLD it's still winter.  Our mini snow is mostly gone from over the weekend.  Just COLD or did I say that?

52-53 years ago I bought a brand new 1973 Ford F-250 with a Western plow and sub contracted a half dozen parking lots and a ~1/2 mile long access road to a gun range.  Paid $25/hour.  Rig had about $4,000 wrapped up in it.  Ford couldn't sell me power steering at that time due to supply issues. Plowing with Mr. Armstrong is a good way to lose a thumb if you're not careful  :o. I always envied the Highway Dept plow guys, still do.  I'd have paid to do that job.

Rick, making progress then going back 2 steps...plugging away at increasing frustration.

Roofing project?  I like Evergreen styrene standing ridge roof material, but it probably would be best for HO as I have used it.  A bit small details for "0"

All I have...enjoy the day.  Easterners, be safe. PATIENCE  ::)

Now that I've had breakfast I can finish my post.

Weather in South Jersey sunny/29.
We had around 24" of white stuff with wind.
Shoveling has been slow going but I'm in no hurry to finish it.
Hopefully they will be shortly to do the driveways.

Rick that is a nice picture wish it was here.

Curt hope your foot gets better quickly.

James don't overdo that shoveling.

Larry good choice bench first then the 1:1 project.

Tom looking forward to the update.

Dave great picture this morning.

Ron I can't wait to see the TUG

Everyone have a wonderful day!!  :)

Good Morning All,

Today for breakfast is coffee, cereal, bagels, yogurt, OJ and soda.

Started out the day with a walk at a feel like 39F and heading to 67F later. It's supposed to warm up again now. Yesterday I finished the roof platform and tank but it still needs attached to the roof.

Yesterday I also tested the shake roofing that Larry recommended. Based on the size of the roof involved and my inability to maintain a straight line consistently it's a non starter for me on the current project.

Today is floor day then hopefully I'll make it to the bench.

I hope everyone has a good day.
