Quote from: Larry C on March 16, 2026, 08:00:06 AMRon nice roofing job. It's always interesting seeing how other modelers accomplish things. So once the third building is complete one can only assume there will be tons of details to tackle.
Thanks Larry.

Your right, after the 3rd building is done it will be a ton of details to paint.  :o

Thanks Dave.

Never thought of using a black sharpie along the edges, will keep that in mind for future reference.

Howdy Ron,  the structures and deck look terrific.  It's nice when it starts to come together as a scene.  Have fun, mike

It's been awhile but it's time for another update.  This one is called. . . . . . .

OK, This Building Construction is Different.

The third building construction is different as it has a cardstock core instead of laser cut studs.

2026 challange-115.jpg
The wall core of the building is on a single laser cut sheet.

2026 challange-117.jpg
The instructions call for the core to be painted flat black so I used a rattle can to paint both sides of the core.

2026 challange-116.jpg
to have a different colour building I used Hunterline's Driftwood to stain the wood required for the boards and battens.  To get a variation of colour on the boards and battens I poured the stain into my staining trough and let it soak into the wood.  After a couple of minutes I removed about a third of the pieces.  After another minute i removed a few more, then continued this process until all the wood is removed.  The remaining stain was then poured back into the bottle.

2026 challange-118.jpg
The interior of the walls boarded.

2026 challange-119.jpg
The wall sections turned over ready to be trimmed.

2026 challange-120.jpg
The trimmed interiors.

At this point I realized that I wouldn't have enough boards to side the outside of the building.  :o  After spending longer than usual to find the instructions I realized that I need to read ALL OF THE INSTUCTIONS, not just the titles.  I read "Interior Siding", tossed the instructions to the side and started planking.

I'm going to call the continuation to this update. . . . .

Oh Crap

After some thinking of how to get out of mess I decided to build the building as a mirror image so the interior walls became the exterior walls.

2026 challange-121.jpg
The "new" interior walls planked as per the instructions.  As you can see, I ran out of the 1" x 12" boards so I made up the difference from my well stocked scale wood supplies.

2026 challange-122.jpg
The 4 interior walls planked.  As you can see bottom right wall, that is the extent of the interior siding.  The lean-to portion of the building doesn't get an interior according to the instructions (I read everything this time).  The top right side is the front of the building so I didn't plant the interior as it will not be seen once the building in planted.

Next up, installing the battens.

Thanks for looking in.
