Finally back at the build. We all know how 1:1 stuff gets in the way of our modeling.

I wanted the tower to be on a concrete base and not just plopped down on God's Green Acre.

I pulled out some spare basswood from the spare stash. I found one and cut a base for this tower.

I cut a base 17X27 HO scale feet.

I outlined where the tower fit on the slab and also marked a interior square to be removed to allow for the lighting.

I cut out the center square and also needed to square the lower left corner. It was a little off to my eye.

I drew in expansion joints.

I then used a scribe tool and added some cracks.

Done for today.

Work on the base continues. I made a test fit on the site location.

I then outlined the base on the scenery and removed all that was going to be under the base.

I'll let this area dry for a couple of days.

Yesterday I sealed the base with Elmer's White Glue. This morning I painted the base with full strength Floquil Aged Concrete.

When dry to the touch, but not cured, I re-scribed the expansion lines and cracks.

Once the paint was dry to the touch, but not yet cured, I stained it with Hunterline Light Gray A&I mix.

Adding the stain while the paint is still curing allows the stain to become one with the paint and not just a stain on top of the paint.
