George got the design idea for this drawbridge from a March/April 1978 Narrow Gauge and Short Line Gazette article written by Brian D. Pate, North Vancouver, B.C., Canada.  I discussed this with George last week.  To quote George " I saw that article and just had to have that structure on my layout".  Here are a few pictures of the article so you can pull it and read the article.  The prototype is The Point Ellice Canadian National Car Ferry Slip

I'm not even going to try. It is just so much fun to see where he has taken the layout every time I visit.

Thanks Doug

My Gazzetes are the most useful research tool I have.  Over the years I have managed to collect every issue.

I will have more pictures latter this week.  I made the decision to switch completely to Apple products this week and went out and bought a MacBook Pro. It took a couple days to get things setup the way I wanted them but I'm back at sorting pictures in less than a week.  So far I'm very happy with the machine and software.

I'm not that familiar with the F&SM Railroad, other than it's superb evolution and mythical status...does the back wall that is the foundation of this layout, curve around in an arc, rather than all structures perpendicular, and backed up to the wall of his house? Genius.

The F&SM is housed in it's own room on the second floor of George's Shop where he produces the FSM kits. As to the placement of the structures - they are not perpendicular to the walls - the roads and tracks wind their way through the room.  George just has the eye for structure placement.

John, here's a thought.....lets try to get a date scheduled in the spring next year and "meet up" and go to George's for a tour if he'd let us do so.....we could all meet up at the Holiday Inn in Peabody (George's is only about 10 minutes away)....kinda like a mini meet for those that could make it....I'm sure I'd have 3-4 guys that would come with me.....just a thought....

Jeff, If a trip to Pee-bitty is in the works I'm in. I'd have to figure which airport to  fly into though ;D ;D

Thanks for the input - I'm trying out some new software that seems to be helping with the fuzzy picture problem. Last week I purchased an Apple MacBook Pro as planned and I'm learning and playing with their Aperture software. The post last night was a test
to see what the pictures looked like when I posted them here. I'm going to make them bigger and do some more playing with settings before I move on with this thread.  Stay tuned!

I would love to make this happen - I need to study the options.  Trips to Boston are Big $$$$$ for me so I would have to tie it to another trip out east. Maybe before or after the EXPO. I need to look at a map and see if it is possible. I will get back to you on this.
