Highs in the 60's, doctor? I've heard there were a lot of highs in the 60's, but I was in the Navy and was not allowed to indulge. Suburban Philly can expect temperatures to peak in the mid-fifties today. It's hard to believe Monday kicks off the summer season.
More rain today (and tomorrow). Can't recall when we've had three sunny days back-to-back. The HOA's lawn service mowed in the rain yesterday. When I was cutting grass for spending money in the fifties, that was a no-no. Guess times have changed, or the grass is different.
Stay dry, ya'll.

Greetings from Reading and SEPTA country. With our atmospheric forecast for the day, it's the first occasion for shorts and polo shirt today.
Latter part of the afternoon is to be spent watching granddaughters JV softball game and then an evening of prepping rolling stock for the Reading Modulars display at Timonium, MD this weekend coming up. Looking forward to being back on the show circuit.
Keep smiling: it'll make folks wonder what you're up to.

Quote from: Jim Donovan on April 18, 2025, 10:18:16 AMGood Morning Folks;

Thought I would check in and say hi. Wife and I are off to Florida panhandle for weekend, meeting up with son and family from Toledo, weather is great so should be great. I have just been fiddling with modeling this past week, using 3D printer to make batches of accessories like shovels, hammers and such for detailing down the road. I put each in tray unpainted ready for when needed.

Congratulations to the winners of the Winter Challenge. Some really fine workmanship was shown and the models look great.

Next week I plan to start work on completing the Miami-Erie canal scene. It has been waiting for three years so guess it is time. At the rate I work it should take me balance of year to complete. First up will be complete design of two rolling bridges, I hope to make them operate but we will see.Well Rick enjoy that fresh air and the hike, I am going to hike to the car and head to Panama City.

Jim

Jim,
Our favorite dinner time diversion is reruns of MASH. You aren't by any chance meeting up with Corporal Max Klinger from Toledo are you?

Jim and followers,
My late father-in-law was a self-employed road warrior. He thought nothing of leaving suburban Boston in the early morning light, traveling to Bath, ME, making his sales call or take orders and be back home in time for dinner. He was also an officer in the crew of the book Mr. Roberts was based on (that's a story for another day).
When he retired, he frequently said he was going to work to relax as he was too damn busy being retired.

James,
I'm sure you're aware that Bethlehem Car Works Reading car kits was bought out by White Rose Hobbies in York, PA. I needed parts (trucks) for one of the old, preassembled coach kits and dealt with Bryan (Brian?) at White Rose to get the replacements I needed. He was very responsive and seems to be the BCW guru at White Rose. Also, a very knowledgeable Reading modeler.
Hope this helps

Nothing to contribute this morning, so I won't even try.

Hooray!
I am not a robot.
I've had to tell this site that two or three times in the last week. I've fallen a long way since my Navy days when I was cleared to burn before reading off the coast of Viet Nam.
Roof being replaced today and someone just fired a leaf blower outside. My day is to be capped off by a visit from our grand daughter tonight, so there is an upside to the day.
Keep smiling: it will make others wonder what you're up to/

Well done, Birds! So much for a threepeat.
Looking out the window at the bird (squirrel) feeder, I think Punxatawny Phil screwed up. A Porcine robin and the finches are showing yellow. Hope they're good indicators that warmer weather is on the way. Soon.
Later, ya'll.

The biggest drawback to the Super Bowl is that now the local newsies will have to find something else to fill the 25 minutes a broadcast they've invested in the Iggles for the past two weeks.
Fly Eagles, fly!

Still trying to recuperate from last weekend at "Springfield"/Amherst. The published attendance figure was over 27,000 for Saturday and Sunday. The problem was the cold. Almost all of the Reading Modular Group returned home suffering from colds, but there have been no reports of the dreaded Springfield Crud.
Modular was supposed to be on the way to the show at Timonium, MD this morning, but we had to drop out due to illness and exhaustion. The members are all getting older or are still working for a living. I know I am not up to a three-hour drive today, set up and two days of being on my feet again. I've got a lot of catching up to do today here and around the house.
Behave yourselves.

Awaiting snow caused Armageddon. Those who "know the weather" are forecasting 4" to 8". And yes, the NFL playoff game is scheduled for 4 PM, right in the teeth of the storm. It won't be nearly as much fun to watch as last night's blowout in Detroit. The ""Washington franchise" was 0-4 last season. Now they're two games away from the Big Dance.
Time to get serious about preparations for Amherst the end of this week. Looking forward to starting off the New Year once again in Massachusetts. Off to the basement after French toast.
Stay warm and dry, guys.

Quote from: TomO/Tloc on January 16, 2025, 08:28:56 AMGood morning from the wilds of So. Central Wisconsin where the miserable chilly weather might become a day for shorts. It is +16f degrees heading to 35. The cool temperatures return on Saturday.

We needs food and drinks! The coffee is the ever faithful Ashpit blend. Teas, milk, juices and sodas are in the cooler. You'll have to make your own hot chocolate. The food today is an English Muffin with grilled ham or bacon, a hard fried egg and cheeses of choice.

Today is a day of rest from looking for a new vehicle. I have been searching since New Years to beat the rush of tariffs. We started out with cars but Terry and I both came to the realization that a compact SUV would be best for us. This week we've tested 9 vehicles and nothing has tripped the trigger. Today I will be in the train room

Have a great day
TomO
As a semi-certifiable car nut and experienced car shopper, you might make a visit to a Carvana or similar used car emporium. You can try all the minivans they have and let someone else take the big hit on first- and second-year depreciation which can be BIG bucks. Roger Penske who has been in cars forever runs an operation on the east coast called (currently) CarSense. He may be in your area under a different name, but our dealings with CarSense have never been a problem.

Son and his son arrived Thursday night for a replay of Wednesday's festivities with the five local family members. I didn't bother with the hearing aids this AM as the noise levels will be off the charts. Looking forward to the fun.

I'm up, but definitely not "at 'em" yet.
I had the honor of sailing past the Arizona twice going and coming from Viet Nam. I seem to recall we dressed in whites and "manned the rail" (stood At Ease along the ships railings) as a silent honor who died in the attack. Still brings goose bumps 54 years later.
