Kit Building / Re: CCK Doc Koontz Build
January 04, 2026, 04:25:33 AM
I have this kit on my shelf. I know Jeff speaks to the trickiness of the build, but that has only made me more interested in building it.

Your build (and this thread) is fantastic. Great work

Modeling Wizardry / Re: 3d killing me.

Having done my fair share of printing, I can say with certainty that it needs more supports.

Quote from: Dave Buchholz on November 05, 2025, 10:11:51 PMI don't see where there was political content in either of our comments about "turds in the toilet". Then linking them somehow to an ideology was incorrect.

It was about noting the level of detail in Rich's Diarama. I've seen a few up close in my basement several years ago. The depth of detail he adds leaves me awestruck. Luckily my jaw was not made of glass, otherwise the boys would have needed a dustpan to pick up the pieces.

I remember a few of us teasing him in my home about one of his projects that I was able to observe closely. The only error we could find was needing more pigeon droppings on the roof.

🤔🤔😅

The devotion to planning, constructing, and detailing is way beyond average, or at least beyond my skills. I continue to be amazed by his patience and craftsmanship that goes into all of his works. I am in admiration of his skills.Simply spectacular!

No issues with any posts, Dave. All is well.

Quote from: Pennman on November 05, 2025, 06:50:02 PMOh! Ok, Craig. Over my head on that one. I don't follow politics, that's why I model and play with trains
instead. I would rather smell the smoke from a steam engine than anything else.  :-[

Rich

I agree. Trains are the best remedy to life!

Quote from: Dave Buchholz on November 05, 2025, 08:25:30 AMI just enlarged one of the last photos to see the detail better. What's that brown stuff in the toilet?

Just a reminder:  Please keep your answers non-political.  :D

WOULD SOMEONE PLEASE SHOW ME WHERE ANYTHING IN THIS THREAD IS OF A "POLITICAL" NATURE", BECAUSE I DO NOT SEE THAT??  RICH

dave

Rich, this comment was made in jest - suggesting what is in the toilet represents a certain political figure.

Fantastic additions to a wonderful build. Really nice work, Jeff. I'm thrilled to see the kit used in new ways.

More fantastic progress, Jeff. Watching you discover all the little details is such a joy. Thank you for continuing to share your build here.

More excellent updates.

You may have trimmed slightly too much metal roofing away, but no harm. Once the flashing is in if you have any remaining gaps, fill them with a build of leaves and scatter :)

I'm just now seeing and catching up on this build thread... and what a joy it is!

You've made absolutely fantastic progress so far and I am really enjoying the small changes you've made. The barn and store switch around is fabulous. Your colouring is great and I can already see how it's all going to look.

Really looking forward to more progress as and when.

As a note, the greyboard backers for the clapboard are in place of stripwood bracing, so therefore do not require bracing in themselves.

Great work, Jeff!

I am still mystified as to why I cannot change font size or type and font color on this forum.

As seen above, I edited your post using the normal tools at any user's disposal and could change font type, color and size just fine. Can you confirm you are using the toolset found to the right of the alignment tools in the menu to do so? See attached photo for the tools themselves.

While I know this forum is mostly populated by a strong community of railroad modellers and enthusiasts, its agenda is to be open to all modellers. The issue with sub-categorising the forum, then, is: if we specify too much it can bias those looking to join who may not be railroad-centric (and subdividing is an endless rabbithole that can lead to forum bloat, too)

I hope that makes sense...

I welcome all suggestions and feedback (please keep them coming) and I appreciate the RR-Line had that infrastructure, but I won't be implementing specific sub-categories at this time.

An inaugural hello to those I haven't yet "met" - welcome to The Modeler's Forum! I'm Craig (I manufacture craftsman kits under the name "Keep it Rusty") and I am the forum's admin. Seeing the increased traffic over the last few weeks is wonderful. As many of you know, this forum rose again from the ashes, so seeing it prosper all over again really is a treat - especially for me.

In regards to a point recently raised, as explained elsewhere, I find zero issues with having two sets of "daily" threads. In fact, it's encouraged to use this forum to continue traditions founded elsewhere - after all, it's that level of passion that will allow this forum to continue to grow and prosper (what is a forum without a community?)

With that in mind, I only ask one thing - that we promote and encourage a unified community. Without that, we are breaking the most important rule: to have fun!

1280x720 is a great, and recommended, viewing size.

Baggage Car - Daily Chat / Re: Saturday, February 8, 2025
February 08, 2025, 04:46:40 PM
Just adding my two cents to the discussion: I see no issue with having separate daily chats - especially seeing as we are serving as a new home for another forum.

The only time this could ever be an issue would be if it creates a divide in the unified community. It's important not to try and recreate what was, but embrace this new home and fuse together the best of both.
