Good Afternoon all,

Well, i am back working on the steel mill area, actually the backdrop. After browsing thru my reference materials, i came across a page of Radical Flats. Voila, this would work for my multi level backdrop. Well almost.

The clouds and steel mill backdrop has been for quite a bit of time. I have added thunder and lightning from BLI. From front to the backdrop area, I need to provide removal panels for access to two level of tracks. So now I had to figure how to handle background / foreground /etc.. The backdrop pics are muted to create distance. I needed to add some dimension with structure in front of the background, but not real deep. Hence the Radical Flats. The yseem to work well in filling the background / foreground space and still allow for removal panels for access.

On left side will be a dual track supplying material for the blast furnace oven. On the right side will be an open hearth furnace with multi levels. More details will be added.

The pics show the Radical Flats visual image that they create. MOre to follow.

Good Morning All from Arizona,

Progress on the layout. I have mocked up the raw material bins behind the blast furnace. The crane has been altered to fit the location. i used foam board to mock up the bins. that will be replaced with styrene in the final build. Foamboard is fast and easy to build a mockup and you get a quick visualization of the size, shape and form of the objects. There are still many items that have to be built in this scene. Lighting is another aspect of the area. Lots of LED's will be installed on the mill and crane. I still need to define the scenery around the material bins. This entire area will be removable to get access to two levels of track below and behind the mill complex. This process is slow because of all the levels in the scene. I keep making rough mockups to visualize the scene. More later.

Frank,

Fantastic looking scene and the rain storm is perfect for the area. Keep up the great work.

Excellent modeling and depth of field Frank.

Curt,

Thank you for your kind words. I am making progress on the depth of field aspect of this portion of the build. Quite a challenge, to say the least. Glad you are following along.

Top of the morning Greg,

Yes, I am glad the convention is finally over. Quite a project. We have a visitor from Celebration, Florida at the convention as well as many other places around the country. Always good to meet folks from around the globe.

The progress on the steel mill is now resuming full speed ahead. This is quite a challenge, but i am enjoying the solutions as it progresses. Still several issues including lighting on the mill, and of course , all the scenery that surrounds it. Glad you are following along.

Thanks,

Top of the morning Tom,

Besides the rain storm, i have the lightening and sound effects from Broadway Limited. I guess I should take a video of that. Perhaps when I get a bit further along. I only run the sound and light show occasionally, its a bit too much . They should have added more sound and light options, but that's the way it goes.

The are behind the steel mill structure will be removable to access the multi level of track below. That's the REAL challenge with the placement of structures and scenery. Life is full of challenges. More to follow. Thank you for your kind words.

Mark,

Thanks for stopping by. Yes, the lightning and sound effects are nice, but they occur every two minutes and that is too frequent. So i turn if off once in a while. I mocked up the material storage area in foam board and now cutting MDF to make a more stable structure. I need to put track in for the crane, some LED lighting along the storage yard, etc.. Scenery in this area is next, starting from the back and working forward. Still lots of LED's for the mill. Then onto  the next building.
