ANDY,

Thank you for your "like" of the Foundry. The foundry was originally done by Wayne Wesolowski back in 1980. I kept the article and finally got around to making it a couple of years ago. It has been sitting on my layout collecting dust ever since. The prior picture is day one of my renovation of the Essex Fells Junction. Tomorrow i will cut the track to its final position, add the cork sub base, glue the track down, add a switch machine, etc.. I have to remove my version of the SRMW kit Martins Machine. The front wall was damaged about a year ago when I leaned on the support bracket. Now I have to rebuild the stone and concrete walls and reinstall the building. more tomorrow.

Day two of the renovation of Essex Fells Junction. I have been removing some old cork to improve the track into the foundry. More cork is being applied for the dual track approach to the steel mill which will be to the upper right of the photo. One switch will be repaired this morning from damage incurred in a prior rework. fortunately it is only a minor repair. I have to cut part of the scenery near Ruby's diner. The area was once going to be a drop in scenic panel, but with the current changes, the wall needs to be partially removed to blend into the area. I guess you can say that I am still in the cut and recover mode. I'll post a picture later in the day.

Day Two was a bust. Just as I was getting ready to start working on the transition of Essex Fells Junction, the wife had a crisis. Her fax machine was not working. All of a sudden, it had stopped. Well actually, it had stopped a day or two ago, but she ignored it. She want to run right out and buy a new one. The machine is about a year old, so That was a long shot. We called the phone company and you guessed it, they said everything was alright. Right, NOT. I spent quite a bit with the technical people at Canon. They are great and it was determined that it indeed was the phone company. By the time this was over, it was off to the kids house for an early dinner. So-o-o, needless to say, I hope to get more done today. Have a great day.

Frank,

Days like that just make us better people doesn't it? Still a day lost but life is good. I had a day like that today which I'll share later in my layout build thread.

Day three was kinda better. the Phone man came and fixed the fax line outside. they always tell you that it is your problem, but NOT. Also had to go purchase some more rocks for the backyard project. The bad news was that I still need a few more bags.

Friday morning will be stretch class, followed by getting a few moe bags of rocks and installing them. Then, its back to the train room. Progress today was small. I added a tunnel portal on the left side. that is the track to the steel mill. I cut the scenery near the cafe and reduced the wall, added cardboard and plaster cloth. trackwork is slow and has been stopped for the moment. The track going to the material track in front of the mill needs a curved turnout. I finally found a hobby shop that had what i needed and it should be here on Monday. Here are a couple of photos of the days progress.

Thanks Tom,

I really did not expect to do this area now, but I am glad that I have. It has been good to get back to working on the layout versus structures, although i really like structures, as you know. I will be spending some more time today outside finishing installing all the rocks. If i never see another rock again, i'll be a happy guy.

Andy,

Thanks for stopping by. Glad you like the progress. Not going as fast as I would like, but its going in the right direction. Here is a photo of yesterdays results. Added the rubber rock along the track to the steel mill and moved the position of the tunnel portal. Yesterday was another day of interruptions and today does not look any better. We are having a birthday party here later today and I am the chef. I might get some time once I confer on the menu.

Andy,

Here is another view of the Essex Fells Junction. I have added the rock forms along the right side of the photo. There are the rubber rocks from Cripplebush. I have been using them for quite some time and really enjoy them. The tunnel portal was also moved further back and the cardboard bracing was added. The inside and outside wings were also added to the portal. Hope to get some time in today and work on the rear wall. I need to design an lift out opening in this area, i think.

have a great day.
