looking good! How many hours a day are you in the train room? ha ha!

Bob,

You know that question is a loaded one. typical answer is : as long as my wife will let me! Real answer is: I start about 7 am and break for lunch, then make dinner and finish about 9 pm. Not every day mind you. Some days I work in the yard for a couple of hours, then go into the train room. Since I retired, I do spend quite a bit of time in here. With the Model Railroader shoot coming up in  May, I am working more than I usually do, well almost. Glad you like the results. More pics soon.

As Frank mentioned a few posts up - I spent a couple days with Frank this week.  The layout looks great. Frank is working hard getting ready for his photo shoot.  He even has his little people working to get things ready, as you can see in this photograph.

As those of you that follow this thread know, Frank is a great modeler and really works hard to get the details right.  As a few of you have commented, the water color looks great.  As a fisherman, I understand how the water in a river flows and where it will be deep and where there will have sand bars, etc.
Frank has the coloring of the water down to that detail, as you will see in the following photographs. The only time I have ever seen black water is in the middle of a moonless night. Water color comes from the sky above it and/or the color of what is on the bottom or floating in the water. Here is what the area in Frank's picture above looked like before he started adding the rocks.  The deep areas are reflecting the blue light from the sky.  In the shallow areas the sand bars are showing up from the bottom.

Here is what it looked like as Frank added the rocks.  Notice that the rocks are rounded from all the years with the water running over them.

Here are a couple of photographs of the pour with Frank on the hair dryer getting rid of the bubbles.  A note on the hair dryer:  Frank had me ask his wife for it - he has learned a thing or two about proper delegation of assignments over the years.

Finally, here are a couple pictures of the other water areas that Frank has painted and ready for the addition of rocks and sand. Notice how the deep water channels follow the natural flow of a river.  The deepest part of the river is rarely in the middle.

Tomorrow, I will try to post some more of the pictures that I took during my visit. Frank I really enjoyed my visit.  Thanks again! I'm looking forward to getting you to Michigan to visit the S&S RR - in one of the few months we can count on no snow.

John,

Thank you for the kind words and photographs of my layout progress. As you know, it is 36 days and counting. It was our pleasure to have you and Amy here with us. Wish we could have had a few more days. Somewhere and sometime soon. In the meantime, here is a couple of progress shots of the water in Little Falls. Remaining is the actual water falls in this scene. Probably Friday or Saturday, I hope.

Great looking stream Frank.....love the texture.  8)

I can't wait for Tom to do his river scene. I haven't done this yet and it should be interesting to see the process.

Frank,
Your stream is wonderful, coloring is perfect, I would love to wade in it, if it were only possible.

Karl, Really glad you like the water and structures. I have really gotten into scratch building over the past couple of years. You will see more in the MR article on my layout. Thank you for your kind words.

Greg,

I might just have to come down to Florida and help Tom with the water. After all, I really owe him. I was a little intimidated at the beginning, now I am really into it. 36 days and counting. The pressure is on!!!

Jerry,

Thank you for your kind words and glad you like the water color. Many more photos will show you how much water will be on the layout. This is fun.
