I screwed the blocks on with one screw and then checked to make sure they were perpendicular to the 10 ft. board.

I used a carpenters square for the alignment. I then added a second screw to the back of each block.

NOTE: The block is the same width as the board, it just looks wider due to the angle of the picture.

This entire sub assembly will be screwed next to the 1 x 3 on the top rung of the Ovalix.

I made a test fit and used Quick-Grips to hold it in place to check the levels on all angles.

You can see I have the same set up on the south wall.

This was pretty much a no brainer but wanted to be sure it was all on the level.

I screwed it in place and then rechecked the levels after.

Horizontal level and vertical levels both all good.

Done for this fine day.

Tom,

I'm always interested in how people construct the underlying support system for their layout.  Thanks for taking the time to show us the step by step.

Jerry,

We all have our own way of doing things like bench work, track laying, etc, and etc. As long as the trains run smoothly we are good to go.

Thank you for the comment and for stopping by.

Great progress Tom.  Looking really nice.

Mark,

Thank you, much appreciated. I try to get a little done each day. Some days nothing gets done and others it balls to the wall. I guess that means "a little gets done each day", on average that is!

I have a Diamond Scale sanding tower but want to use it elsewhere. I purchased the Walthers Cornerstone Sanding Towers and Drying House kit.

Yepper all plastic. Fast forward and I've built the two towers and plan on using the smaller one at the lubritorium.

I painted this tower with Floquil Weathered Black. When the paint is cured I'll paint the base Aged Concrete.

I still need to add the rope and counter weights.

As I mentioned, the kit includes a plastic sand bin.

I decided to scratch build one using their plastic one as a reference.

I used HO scale 2x12's for the horizontal boards and 8x8's for the vertical support posts.

I used the Xacto razor saw and scored the boards and then soaked them in Hunterline Medium Brown A&I.

I wanted to add N&B details and went to my stash. I found these and they are so old the plastic and paper were brittle. You know they are old as they only cost a dollar for 100, 20 to a sprue.

I painted the N&B castings with Floquil/Polly Scale Railroad Tie Brown. While the paint was drying I added some Bragdon Powder Chalk - Burnt Sienna to the tops.

I drilled a #76 hole in the 8x8's and glued the casting over each 2x12.

One corner is finished. I won't use the N&B's on the other side as it won't be seen from the isle
