Tom,

I worked in a Texaco that was pretty much a mirror image of this station when I was in college.  This not only brings back memories, it looks great!   When I worked there we used to hand wash customer's cars, and I have to wonder if a little creative license might happen in Tahope, a bikini car wash maybe?  I guess we'll just have to follow along and see what happens...

Jerry,

This build reminds me of "days gone by" as well. We used to ride our big Schwinn bikes into the gas station like we had cars. We'd put air in the tires and pretend we were getting gas. Cokes were a nickel and went to 10 cents in 1959.

I have the Jimmy D's Bikini Car Wash with bikini clad girls washing cars. Reading Bob built the kit. I'll have to check with the Tahope Town Council to make sure there is no violation of the bikini girls. ;D ;D

Stay tuned for sure.

Still working on the walls.

Here are the five parts that make up the left wall of the gas station.

From top to bottom - trim, exterior wall, middle wall with window framing, interior wall (the obverse side of this wall is painted gloss white) and the back door panel.

This wall section is now assembled.

The window ledge in the middle of the two doors is Evergreen .060" X .100" styrene/plastic strip cut to fit.

Here is the detailed part that brings the station to life.

It is the GULF logo! I neglected to take photos of the build process for the logo. Sorry 'bout dat(sic).

This little baby was put together like the lube and wash lettering. It is made up of 8 separate parts. Darryl really did a fantastic job on this fine detail.

Diet Pepsi break, back in a few.

When building this kit, you need to exercise extreme patience. Each wall, as mentioned, has three main layers. Getting them aligned is critical to a perfect fit of the corners.

On the front wall, I used a metal square to make sure the garage bay corners were perfectly aligned to each other.

I forgot to mention this earlier in the thread.

Two walls are now complete.

These are not yet glued in place or to each other. When glued in place you won't see the gap in the corner.

Love the Gulf Station, but I remember a Sinclair Station that looked a lot like that in my Hometown.

Man, that was a LONG time ago.

Tom,

I love the way it's coming together. It's a really unique model and yet somehow also seems familiar.

Jim,

Thanks for stopping by. I think any gas logo on the building would look correct.

That "long time ago" seems like yesterday.
