Great thread! I feel your pain as my nephew would say!  I went through this process 5 years ago when I decided to go in a different direction with my layout.  Reading through your thread prompted me to get out the pictures of the old layout.  I will be following along, thanks for sharing.

John,

Thanks for stopping by. I didn't follow this thread as I should have. I'm finished with all the 1:1 modeling for the present so now I can get on with the layout redo!

I have about 150+ more photos of the layout removal to upload and share. More to follow this weekedend.

Well, it's been two+  months since I added anything to the thread.  I haven't been idle on removing the layout but my time was spent remodeling the interior of the house. 1:1 modeling is over for now so here I be, back where I belong.

Let's see, I was at the point of removing the area just north of the large yard. I even found a few treasures mentioned earlier in the thread under the layout. That part of the old benchwork was removed as shown in the first photo below.

I then moved to the large upper yard. First, I had to remove all the cars. Once the cars were removed, I began removing the track work.

Continued in a few minutes.

You can see in the above photo that I still had some revenue items still working the yard as the demolition was moving forward. How do you like my Rube Goldberg wiring? I pormise it didn't look like this when the layout was operational.

Yea, right!

Now a large portion of the large yard is removed, last photo shown below.

Continued in  few.

I'll let the next several photos speak for themselves as the demolition continues.

Good Morning Tom,

I really enjoy seeing the teardown of the layout, but at the same time a little sad because I know how much time and effort you have put into the current layout. My first question is where are yu putting all the train stuff, because I know you have a lot of it! Looking forward to the new build. Looking good my friend.

Andy,

Thanks for stopping by. Yes, there is and was a lot of material and supplies to be removed. I find myself moving stuff from one side of the room to the other. I need another room just to store the good stuff I'll be reusing.

It seems I have my very own lumber yard in the train room. I'll post more later this evening.

Frank,

Thanks for stopping by and checking in. This has been a labor of love and hate. I love removing it all for the new one but hate removing it for all the labor I've invested. Alas, poor Tom, I knew him well! Ha, it's time to move forward on a better layout.

Yes, I have a ton of stuff and need to thin out. Maybe one day but the good stuff is just moved from one spot to the other.

I reached the corner of the "L" on the layout room and found two more treasures under the layout. These have been under the layout and in the corner for probably the past 18 years. But first the corner area with the layout bed removed.

Bob,

Yes, you are certainly correct! I spend as much time cleaning up the mess as I do making it!
