I then added the hobby shop sign to the roof. It also was weathered with pastel chalks.

Looks like a great spot for railfanning!

Chris,

I agree, it would make a great railfanning spot. I'll have to put the man with a camera on the sidewalk.

Thanks for stopping by and posting your thoughts.

Time to move on to the north side of South Street.

This area will present some unique problems which I'll cover later in the layout thread. However, there was something I've been dreading for the past several months, okay, years.

This is the area I'll be working on next. Looks plain enough.

In the next photo you'll note the two attic access panels. One was done when that addition was constructed and the larger one when the last addition was constructed.

I was lazy and didn't feel like cleaning out the attic prior to the center isle being built. Both of these access holes are directly above the layout second level. Eventually they will also be over the Summit level as well.

More in a few.

I didn't want to risk the possibility of stepping on the track and/or ruining a turnout or two. Nor did I want to damage the brick street with the track running down the middle.

My solution was simple, it came to me  while out by the pool talking to the Babe. I decided to use the pool chair cushions and lay they across the layout. I then used the third level plywood and lay it across the cushions.

This morning I was up and down several hours while we cleaned out the layout room attic. I threw out two large piles of stuff that I forgot I even had up there. If I didn't know I had it then I definitely no longer need it.

What is left in the attic will be a treasure hunt for the kids when I'm in the cab of the big loco in the sky.

More in a few.

The plywood and cushions were removed this afternoon with no damage at all to the track, turnouts or street. YEA!

Now I need a cold Diet Pepsi. ;D ;D  Back in a few.

The below photo shows where the third (Summit Level) will be joined to extend the level down the center.

The next photo shows two measurements.

The 8' marks the distance to the upper 1X3 shown above.

The 3' marks the distance to South Street. This 3 ft. section will be next for me to work on. I'll discuss the issues I'm facing in tomorrows post.

Done for today.

Poolside lounge chair cushions?
Next up will be chlorine in the river at Tahope an Ph testing!
Working on my second million. I gave up on the first.

You know, I plum forgot about the attic!  I don't know what all was up there, besides rat, squirrel, and coon poop, but your solution on how to remove the stuff was brilliant.

Nice work on the hobby shop, Tom.  I used rolled up towels on a layout area when the electrician was here, but that would have been more a knee hitting the tracks or dropping something on the layout.  I'll use your cushion idea in the future.

Chip,

Yep, poolside lounge chair cushions.

Hmm, chlorine in the river, now that's a thought I hadn't thought of.  8)

Bill,

I've had the attic contents on my mind since I finished the river and long before that. I found all the awards, accolades, my night stick and several other non essential items from my law enforcement days. Those were left there for Tommy and Sharon to find years from now.

I threw out old shelving brackets and shelves along with old cardboard boxes full of junk. Like I said, if I didn't remember I had them, no need to keep them.

The cushions sure made the cleaning process go much faster.
