Nice sediment beds, Rick!  One can see how they got the 'Painted Hills' name.

Roofers are here, dogs are not happy.  But at least it's sunny, something we haven't seen in a while.

Morning everyone

Rick thanks for the coffee & breakfast.

Morning Dave.

Need to keep this short.  I have mulch duty this morning.
That means going to get it then help spread it.

Everyone have a great day!!  :)

Good morning folks,

Rick, thanks for opening, coffee and breakfast.  Enjoy the day, William Clark... ;)

Dave, good luck with the roofing.

Jerry, the spring activities don't often include model trains.  Enjoy the outdoors.

How is the rest of the crew?

IT's another bright morning at 52°F, climbing to 83°F later today.  My morning will include letting our daughter's dog out and washing Sharon's car.  The interior needs cleaning too, since we dumped dirt all over on the weekend's plant run.

I hope to get some time to make some bridge abutments and work on the layout.

Have fun,
mike

8) Sun and a bit warmer this morning in MI, may go to the ~600 range with the wind picking up a fair bit.

Did get at the station a bit yesterday.  Watched about 15 laps of the NASCAR race from Bristol, used to be the highlight of my racing season.  A you can't buy a ticket unless someone dies kind of fan base back in the day.  80s and 90s...made 3-4 trips there, E. Tennessee is beautiful this time of year. LOTS of empty seats these days.  Used to take almost as long to get out of the parking lot as to run the race.  My left leg ached for 2 weeks after driving a stick shift 5.0 Mustang there, clutch was stiff :o stop and go and a bit of an uphill drive out of the drag strip area was not fun.  Learned it was better to park off property and walk out to your van.

I shut the TV off and took the Doll out for pizza. :D

I did work at the bench on the station;

My first time using my Micro Mark building platform and oh so strong magnets. More time at that today before I get drug outside.

Love the desert pic, Rick

Enuf from MI.  Be well all.

Morning all,

Thanks for breakfast Rick. Excellent picture of the painted desert.

Train shed time today for me and hopefully I'll have time to update a couple threads.

Have a safe and happy day everyone.

Good morning Rick, Dave, Jerry, Mike, Karl, ACLTom and the rest of the crew that drops in later.

Thanks for the coffee and breakfast Rick, the way things are going McLaren is the team to beat this year.  Have fun exploring today.

Dave, hope the roofing goes well for you today.

Jerry, have fun spreading the mulch.

Mike, hope you get time at the bench after cleaning the car.

Karl, the station is coming along great.

ACLTom, have fun in the train shed.

Currently 71F and sunny here.  Didn't make it to the beach or bench yesterday.  It was cool till mid-afternoon and by then I had found other distractions. 8)   Will probably watch the hockey game tonight, If Montreal beats Chicago tonight they are officially in the playoffs.

Have a great day everyone.

Good Morning All,

Sitting in our hotel waiting for our transport to the cruise ship. Flights went well yesterday but our transportation from SEATAC to our hotel fell through so we ended up taking a taxi van to the hotel. It actually turned out to be cheaper than our scheduled ride. ;D

We have the hotel taking us to the ship at 1100.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Good Morning,

The morning beverages are all set to go. Breakfast is breakfast burritos with egg, cheese, and salsa served on a warm tortilla shell. There's sliced hot peppers and hot sauce if you want a little "pep in your step" this morning.

To answer your question Rick yes I'll be blending in the dirt pile at the end of both tracks.

What's going on?

It's a sunny 56 with a high of 64 in New York and rain after 1pm. Worked outside yesterday afternoon getting rid of a gnarly bush by the driveway. Might do a little more outside work this am before it rains. Nothing from the bench yesterday but maybe today.

Have a great day!!! Be well and stay safe.

Good morning everyone.

Canyon City weather: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 73.

Larry, thanks for the coffee and breakfast.
Hope the outside work goes well.

Curt, good news on the cheaper ride.
Maybe you already said, but where are you sailing to?

Philip, sorry you're both not feeling well.
Get well soon.

Ron, I agree with you about McLaren.

ACLTom, very happy all is well at the doctor's.

Karl, the station is looking very good.

Mike, you had me googling again with that explorer reference.

Jerry, is all the mulch spread?

Dave, I'm sure you already know, but the red colors were formed during wet times and the lighter colors during arid eras.

TomO, hope all is well with you.

Visited the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument yesterday.
There's a museum in the visitors center filled with fossils found in the area.
A couple of interesting things I learned yesterday:
1) There were elephants in North America.
2) Rhinoceros's had their origin here in North America.
3) This area of Oregon was the capital of ancient dog breeds. (There were over 10 different breeds.)
Also did a short 1.4 mile hike on the Island of Time trail.
Looked like you were on a different planet.
Couldn't do the Blue Basin Overlook Trail because it was closed due to mud slides and wash outs.
Today we head south some more to some hot springs with a brief stop in Burns.

Another picture from Painted Hills.

Well, they pushed and finished our entire roof yesterday.  It's a pleasure to watch a crew that is well organized and efficient.  I think today will be a pick-up/put-away day.  A lot of scenery materials are scattered around the layout and the garage.

Rick, there's a period in geologic history where atmospheric and terrestrial conditions teamed up to lay down red beds: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banded_iron_formation  Apparently iron-rich bacteria from the bottom of the ocean reached the surface and contacted the oxygen-rich atmosphere, where the bacteria rusted :-)  The result precipitated iron oxides in mass amounts.  This would be a cycle, there'd be an iron bloom, and then a low iron period, producing those bands in your pictures.

Mid 30s, windy and rain in MI this morning.  Going to be a day long deal. "S" word in play a bit farther North ::)

Got out yesterday, went to the grocery $store then back home, the zero turn started up with little issue and I ended up mowing.  That pretty much ate up the time and energy.

No plans today, back to the station build and possibly the layout.

Be well all.

Morning all,

Thanks for breakfast and the drink Karl. Egg Burrito is good for me this fine morning.

We have bowling at noon and only two weeks left. I'm ready for the break. Late lunch after that with friends.

Have a safe and happy day everyone.

Good morning Larry, Rick, Dave, Karl, ACLTom and the rest of the crew that drops in later.

Thanks for the coffee and breakfast Larry, hope you can get the outside work done before the rain starts.

Rick, enjoy the hot springs.

Dave, interesting geological lesson there.

Karl, enjoy working on the railroad today.

ACLTom, good luck bowling and enjoy the late lunch with your friends.

Philip, hope you are feeling better.

Currently 70F and sunny here.  No modeling last night as I watched the hockey game.  Montreal lost in overtime so they are still 1 point away locking it in.  A win or tie in there last game or a Columbus loss or tie  gets them in.

Have a great day everyone.

Good morning, both of us are still dragging that bug around, aka sinus infection with a big sprinkle of pollen. Gena has the worst with a cough and I'm just a hydrant of tears and phlegm.

Have a great day!

Philip
