Howdy folks,

I finished the three sections of stone retaining wall that lines Main Street. A base coat of primer was applied and when dry, I'll start the tedious stone coloring process.

The retaining walls were made from EPS foam and are 2" H X 1: thick.  I used an exacto blade to cut the stone outlines, then used a pencil to widen the cuts.

I haven't decided on the color of the mortar yet but the stones will be painted like the bridge abutments.

Stone wall cut and ready for paint.

The stone wall was tacked in place for the photo. It is painted with a tan base coat.

Next will be the railroad tie retaining wall across from the derrick.

Have fun,

Mike, that wall looks very good.
Now I'm curious why you didn't use foam for the jail instead of the walls you printed?

friscomike

Howdy Rick,

I could have and thought about it, but I wanted to use a different medium for the sheriff's office.  The Stoney Creek Designs Sheriff's office is my inspiration.

Howdy folks,

Curt and Jerry, thank you for your kind comments.

The walls for the sheriff's office have been cut out except for the windows in front and on the side.  It is proving to be a little tricky to cut out in the hard PLA print.  Had I not been so anxious to try out the stone prints, I would have printed the window and door openings.  Oh well, next time.

Here is a photo of three walls to give you an idea of the look.

Next, I'll cut out the windows for the jail cells.  I have the Tichy bars ready to go to keep the town drunks in captivity.

Have fun,
mike

Good work!

Howdy folks,

Philip, there will be room for Otis.  That's the expression I had on my face while cutting the windows and door openings. Thanks for the post.

The sheriff's office is glued together.  When the glue is dry, I'll use plastic putty to fill in the joints.  Then it's a good scrubbing before priming. The stones will be a light rusty tan color with dark mortar, similar to the other stone buildings in Quitaque.

Thinking ahead, I need to find a sitting sheriff with a western hat for the front porch.

Didn't the old Campbell/Weston figure line have a police figure?  I'm not sure that's quite the same as a 'sherif'.

I miss Louis' builds from Railroad Line, I remember he did a jail.

Nice work Mike. It would probably be easier to find a sitting cowboy and turn him into a sheriff.
