Quote from: Rick on October 16, 2025, 10:33:31 AMIt's interesting to me to read what others noticed in a photo.
What I liked about the photo is everyone sitting together and chatting about their day much like we do here.
I didn't focus on what was on the plates.

Funny! I looked at that picture and thought how staged it was. Then realized how perfect all the hair was. Never looked at the food but definitely saw conversations

That's another thing I noticed too.
All the men look similar and have the same slicked back hair.

deemery

Yeah, a staged photo.  They're probably laughing, when someone said "Hah, I bet they think we like eating this swill."

But not as obviously bogus as some photos I've seen from that time (I'm presuming depression/WWII era.)

Being bald the first thing I noticed with that photo was all the finely styled gentlemen's hair, a far cry from any of the Gandy Dancers seen around here these days.  Smiles, too.  A plate of stew and a tub of Brylcreme...

RE: John Deere, it is all back together, I still have to hit some grease zerks and attach the pulley covers. Lots of big time Deere owners are really upset with the big mega buck green machines and their proprietary diagnostic systems that require a Deere employee to plug in and diagnose issues.

Was a frantic day.  While I was getting ready to go to an 11:30 PT appointment the Doll decided the expensive cat needed a recheck with the vet and split in a cloud of haste while I was in the shower....taking both sets of keys to my truck with her.  >:( PT had a 4:30 opening so it all worked up, cat's fine.  I used the big Deere and mowed off some of my 'spirit' with the expectation of rain coming.  She used up a whole lot of "atta boys err Gals" today.

Good morning everyone.

Klamath Falls weather: 46 currently (it's colder where I'm at at a higher elevation.) and sunny with a high of 61.

I see Curt is here as well so we'll probably have double breakfasts.

Coffee, sodas and OJ are ready.
Belly butters for breakfast today.
Two eggs, bacon, pork roll, hash brown patties and cheese on a torpedo roll.

Karl, hope today is less frantic and good news on the Deere being back together.

Dave, I thought the photo might have been AI but after researching it turns out it was just a staged photo from the early 50's.

TomO, how was breakfast brunch?

Jerry, any good news from yesterday?

Mike, did you start on the derrick?

Philip, I don't eat anything green.

How's everyone else doing?

Star and I did our hike yesterday.
It was a longer one at 12.94 miles and 1,847' of EG.
Some s$#@ on this rail too and Star loved rolling around in it.
Heading back into town today to visit a RR museum.

Another picture from Paulina Lake.

Have a great day everyone.

Good Morning All,

Today for breakfast is coffee, cereal, bagels, english muffins, yogurt, OJ, and soda.

Today is starting slow. I may or may not get the van out of the repair shop which is once again OOC due to a bad alternator. Of course it had to happen the week of the annual skunk show (think dog show) where MOH sells her crafts along with bringing animals and stuff for the rescue. The show is tomorrow so I won't post until Sunday.

Yesterday, after chores I finished "planking" 2 of the repair shed walls and hope to do the other 2 today.

Not much else on the agenda today.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Good morning. 58f degrees now 78 later in So. Central Wisconsin.

Rick Breakfast was great. None of the places take reservations for breakfast during the week and the original place we were heading to had a line out the door. Terry went in to check anyway and it was an hour wait. If it's 20-30 minutes we can handle that. Beyond 30 minutes we go elsewhere. About 2 miles away is a good place that we last went to in April. It was great and cheaper than were we 1st were going

Heading to a layout work session today. Lots of issues getting a Crew together this week and we will have the same issue next week. Seems many of our wives are messing with scheduling, can you believe that. Change up today is I'm driving and picking up the 2 guys that normally drive me. Both have cars in the shop. I can handle it

When I get home I'll have time for a shower and then go pick up the grandson. We will go out for an early dinner and then to campus. The Badger Women play volleyball at 6. The reason Terry isn't coming, the daughter, granddaughter and Terry are having a girls night out. Dinner at the Mexican place the g/d thinks is awesome and then a musical The School of Rock put on by the local theater group.

Thanks for breakfast that along with a diet Dr Pepper will hit the spot

Enjoy your day
TomO

Morning all,

Thanks for breakfast Rick and Curt. However, I only had one.  ;D

I had a Curt night and didn't sleep worth a dang. I feel a nap will be in my future.

The bill paying was painless as they were just the regular monthly stuff.

Have a safe and healthy day everyone.

Tom

Well, one of the dogs got me up twice to take him out, so I'm in the 'bad night's sleep' club.  It's sunny and a bit cool here, 49 from 41 heading to 61.  The cleaners are here, and once they're gone, I need to run to the store.  Otherwise, I should spend some quality time in the train room.

Back to a low key day, I hope.

I finally made it to PT, on the way home I noticed a pillar of smoke far off to the East from my route home.  I checked the news and they reported a business jet that had been in Battle Creek for maintenance work since March was on a first flight test and was reported to be doing stalls at 14,000-16,000 and something happened disastrously and it fell from the sky, 3 on board.  The crash was ~30 miles from my location.

Might make it to the layout today, I hope, my TO-DO list  hasn't been posted yet... ;)

ACLTom are the latest posts still of Howard Zane's layout? Nice

Morning Rick and crew!

Not much happening today. Another 7 hours sleepless night also. Lots on the mind.

Looks bad Karl.

Well off to the basement.

Good Morning,

Rick thanks for the coffee and breakfast. Sounds like the hike was a workout; glad Star enjoyed herself.
Nice photo.

Curt I'll take a second cup-o-joe. Cars usually have problems when you least expect. Have fun in the train room.

Tom O. sounds like a busy day; the right kind of busy. Enjoy the game.

Tom it sucks when you don't sleep well; been there....done that. Enjoy the nap. Great RR photos.

Dave hope you sleep better tonight and hope your dog gets one as well. Have fun with your build.

Karl that doesn't sound good.....it's not the fall it's the sudden stop at the end that's the problem.

Philip a bad nights sleep thing must be going around. Try to clear the mind or think on something pleasant when you go to bed.

What's your plans for the day.

It was 30 on the back porch @ 0700 giving us a hard frost with a high of 57 here. Probably need to pluck dead plants this afternoon. Maybe some bench time first now that all the usual errands are done.

Have a great day!! Be well.

Karl,

Yes, I'll be posting Howard's layout photos for the next month or so. I have approx. 400+ of the layout. Some of them aren't forum quality as he changed his lighting on one of my visits. I'm having trouble fixing the yellows in those.

Tom great pictures of Howard's layout.

Morning Dave.

Karl that must have been a really bad one.

Philip I think you guys should get together and make a sleepless night club!!  ;)

Larry I hate when the mornings are that cold it means winter is around the corner.

Weather in South Jersey sunny/53.  Later on 62.
Nice Fall day.
No sure what's on the agenda today.
Bench time later in the day I hope.

Everyone have a great day!!  :)

Good morning everyone,

Thanks for the coffee and breakfast Rick and Curt.

Haven't posted in a couple of days due to visiting a couple of job sites and putting out some small fires.  Went through 3 tanks of has in 2 days  :o  glad I'm not the one paying for it (company car).  Very little modeling this week.  This morning's running around is done which included dropping Gracie off at the groomer and a Costco run.  Only have a couple hours of work to do today and pick up Gracie from the groomer.

I need to change  speaker in a locomotive what will be required for tomorrow's open house (not mine).  Tomorrow is the Capital's Region open house where layout owners open there layout to registered participants of the tour.   I'll be helping a buddy at his layout.

Have a great day everyone.

Good Morning Folks;

That non-sleeping club is growing. Issues in the left foot (gout) kept me up as the medicine did not want to win the war until about 1 am. Love the photos folks, amazing. I came across one I will share of an oil rig around 1910 in Ohio that was actually on the Miami-Erie Canal. By 1922 almost all oil drilling had moved down to Texas Oklahoma, but in the 1890-1920 period Ohio and Penn were the oil patch parts of the country.

Plan to watch football this weekend end start planting all the buildings I've made on the layout next week. Have a great weekend.
